your first mistake was choosing to defend at all

lessons learned:
stay off horses
don't rely on guns
don't face cavalry in the open

i started to go the musket route but decided bows would be much better, and their kill counts reflected such

if they're hit while reloading a musket, now they have to start all over again, there's too many possible interruptions. With bows, they end up having a much higher rate of fire, and accuracy, which are far more important

good armor, two shields (arm and back), a masterwork longbow, and a large bag of barbed arrows and they're good to go

you can do it as leisure, why not them?

i refuse to hold towns or castles as fiefs, only villages

dealing with garrisons is a monumental headache and i like to stay on the offensive

i take a city, i let it have the default garrison, and move on. If it gets attacked, i just keep moving; the AI will never take cities as quickly as i will so it's only a matter of time before i win

the most reliable way is to find the faction leader and ask him for peace

depending on how pissed they are, you'll have to pay between 20-80,000

i always roll with fully geared infantry and i give my companions the best bows and armor i can buy so i have a ranged component

if i'm in the open field against cavalry, i back up to the edge of the map, close ranks as tight as they'll go and wait for the charge

the AI is dumb enough to keep coming back, or get stuck against the wall, so usually it's no problem

the stragglers that stay back usually rout, or are shot down by my companion archers, or if necessary i'll grab a horse and run them down, since my agility level makes a saddle horse feel like a courser

i had a scottish roommate for awhile, so i can say there is nothing i love more than stabbing the sh*t out of every scotsman i come across in-game

if i see one during a battle, i will literally turn away from whoever i'm fighting just to go stab that plaid f*cker to death

i've moved my guys into the courtyard during a siege defense twice and it resulted in my army being completely slaughtered

when i keep them up on the wall, and i take one ladder for myself, 9/10 we win

is there a way i can get back onto the main storyline without starting a new game..?

since i'm always on foot, i use a balanced rapier and just keep everyone in front of me
the broadsword is too slow for me

an all-pike army will destroy pretty much anything, except reiters or horse archers, and even then a small amount of musketry will bring them to heel
