To be honest with you, it is a great waste of time as the money that comes in from them is negligible .... BUT ... I am a bit of an OCD player, and like my things to be nice and tidy. 

Therefore, I want my villages to be all cool and calm, rather than some medieval hovel.

Also, to the poster that asked .. I do not use the cheats in this game, all I have done is follow the tweak thread on this forum to make the game more to my liking.

Durandal - no, I know I do not NEED that many troops, but like Pokemon, I just gotta have 'em.

Atm, I have roughly 240 Swadian Knights, 80 Lancers, 300 Swadian Sergeants, 150 Swadian Sharpshooters, 100 Huscarls, etc etc, spread over 2 castles and my travelling army.

I KNOW that's overkill, but meh, I love my soldiers, I do.

As to doing quests for the villages to prosper, well I am not so sure. I did 4 quests for my desolate village, brought them wheat and cattle, killed off a Bandit infestation ...and then there were no more quests.

About 2 weeks in game time later and the village is still poor and desolate and still no quests available.

I will set about doing loads of missions for the Village Elders of my towns and see how that pans out. I must admit though, I have been in the area of one of my villages for ages now and have not seen a group of farmers come out.

Hm, will have to pay more attention.

As for the two castles, well I have only got 2 "cheats" enabled (from the Tweak thread on this site) ... the one where you can bet 100o denar at the tournament to make more cash and the one where I get troops faster for lower renown (level 31 with 206 atm) ... so not big cheats.

Anyway, what this means is that my troop upkeep is no bother to me, as I just do a few tourneys .... and atm I have 480 troops in one castle and 540 in the other (overkill I know, but I just get all carried away sometimes). My current wage bill is rough 18k per week.

Anyway, thanks again for the advice, will go and do some missions now.

Yes, it is very strange especially when you go to YouTube and see there are already some game vids of M&B there. Maybe they used some other program, rather than Fraps?

No matter what media player I use, I get the same jerky, out of synch playback. I really wanted to make a jousting tournament video, but so far all my efforts have been in vain, as they are just choppy and unwatchable.

So no-one has any insight into this for me?

Nope, thought it was going great on my 4850, dx9 enabled for once. Three freezes in a row. Just locks up. Have to reset the pc.

There is NOTHING worse than a game that freezes up my pc ... I love this game but am getting merrily sick of how many freezes i have had now. Two steps forward, 54 steps back.

I know they are a small team, and I love em for it, but there is no excuse for this. They have had dx9 issues with Ati for ages now ... oh screw it, rant over.

Back to Far Cry 2 for me.

I too updated to the new 8.10 ATI driver, and now the game will randomly crash ... usually if I try to go somewhere from the menus (ie, enter tavern, go to village center).

Worst of all, it is that terrible crash that just freezes my PC ... I hate them. Why does this game hate Ati and DX9 so much?

Thank God that Clear Sky was awful else I would never have found this game ..... 

Well, no, but you know what I mean .. but anyway, just wanted to say that this is a great thread with some amazing information and tweaks in it. I am not going to change my game too much, as I love it how it is, but I am tempted to adjust the prisoner amount.
