  1. [video] M (native frag/duel movie)

Very nice video M, really nice editing. I especially liked the harlequin bit, I bet it must have felt sooo good kicking him
  2. Trade permit

How do you actually get a trade permit? I've got the quest but every time I ask a mayor, he offers me one for 4500 and I automatically reply that it's too expensive, despite having 20k with me.

  5. NATIONS CUP 2011 Team BeNe (BELGEN MELD JE NU OOK AAN!!)

Dank je voor de introductie Morii .

Zoals Morii al zei ik speel nu voornamelijk cRPG, dus ik heb geen idee hoe het in native zal gaan, maar dat zien we morgen in de training wel.
  6. Native Completed Nditions' European Duelling Tournament! | Finished; won by IG_Earl_M

    Me - M
    2-7

GFs M, but my blocking and chambering just isn't up to beating you anymore .

edit: yes alex, 7-6 to baldwin, I was on the server at the time.
  7. So I haven't played since the Beta...

Hhhmm were you playing cRPG today? Because one thing I've noticed about cRPG is that there is a lot of spamming, much more than on native servers. It's because the armour and custom characters make it a much more viable tactic than in native. So your 4th point might simply be that.
  8. Khergit

    Leto 说:
No, on random plains, camp the side of the map, or get a hill, and have a mix of spearmen and xbos/bows, it works great, as there archers won't be as accurate as yours

Then they wait, while out or range, for motf. As soon as the flags spawn they send 1 or 2 to the flag while the rest go harass the campers. The campers are then forced to run to the flags all the while dodging arrows. They could stop and shoot at the khergits and they'd win that shooting match, but by the time they're done the khergits will have won because of the flags.
  9. WTF HAPPENED TO KICK?

    Noddin 说:
True. Good players are good players though. It just makes for a longer fight with both sides looking for mistakes.

That's my point, in a longer fight the shield user has the advantage. There are very few mistakes that you can exploit. The common mistakes are: blocking, positioning and timing. Blocking is taken care of by the shield, positioning can either be in the form of stepping around behind him or in stepping back to make his shorter 1H miss while your big 2H hits, and both of these are unlikely to work on solid players. So that just leaves timing, usually in the form of double attacks when the shield user is too predictable in feinting. It used to be you had kick to exploit faults in positioning, now you don't.

This is just theory, in actuality everyone makes mistakes in all 3. It's just to point out the disparities between shield and manual blocking.
  10. WTF HAPPENED TO KICK?

    Noddin 说:
People talking about feinting being pointless because the shield user just waits for a thump. This means you aren't using a rhythm or paying attention to any patterns. Feinting as you walk up to someone is pointless for the same reason. If you hit the shield, block and continue on, this is how  rhythm develops. You people sound like you're expecting every fight to last two moves in, it shouldn't and feinting is pointless without a rhythm. They'll expect a two move feint in most cases, once that rhythm develops, throw a third move feint in there and bam, you got em, but only if you're actually engaged in a fight. If you see them swing and your swing is going to be released after, then block! It's that simple.

Moving your sword everywhere then suddenly hitting the shield of course doesn't work. Feinting is a rhythm thing. If you can't block after you hit the shield, you shouldn't be trying to manual block in the first place.

    It's balanced fine.

It works like that against most people. It doesn't work against people who understand breaking rythms, anyone good in other words. Any good player know exactly what you're talking about, which is why it most often won't work on them.
  11. WTF HAPPENED TO KICK?

    Urist 说:
Right now landing a kick requires some skill and setting up the enemy. So with this patch an able kickslasher deserves his win. But before that a kickslasher could kick all the freaking time even against a skilled opponent if that one had a non-stab weapon only.  Then the latter couldn't really punish the kick-attempt because the kicker could freely block and turn if his kick missed. Now a failed kick is more punishable (not just with a perfectly timed thrust) and thus alot more risky. So instead of 10-30 kick attempts in a high skill 3 minute duel we might see 1-2. This - in my opinion - is an awesome improvement.

Now, if I get kickslashed in a fight, I give the kicker a 'Nicely done.' and mean it.

Agreed, in fact this patch has fixed alot of the problems with kick. However I do feel it has disrupted the balance between 1H+shields and 2Hs. Right now, if I meet a shield user, who is close to my level of skill, while using a 2H myself, the fight turns into a desperate race to either break the shield or read the pattern well enough to be able to double attack. And I have to do that before I make too many blocking mistakes, which is made more difficult by the enemy being right up in my face for the entire fight. Right now there's no deterrent for facehugging, no reason not to just get as close as possible and stay there.

And let me be clear on some things. Generally this patch has made the game alot more fun, just because it removes the kick abusers from play. It also hasn't really effected the general balance of the game. I still see just as much 2Hs and shields out there as before. And I can still tear through most 2H or shield users without much difficulty. Its only when I come up against a good player using a shield that I feel the balance has shifted. Before the patch I would have said that 2H weapons were the best weapons to have in a melee fight. Right now, I'd rather have a sword and board. And this isn't solely because I don't have kick to fall back on, it's just as much because I don't have the threat of kicking to make the enemy think about his positioning.

Now for the "bring an axe" argument. Yes, an axe is certainly the perfect weapon to have against a shield user, but that has little to do with the problem other 2Hs have vs shield users. Admittedly, making kick more powerfull isn't neccesarily the answer either.

In short: I like what the changes to kick have done to kicking. It is harder to do and easier to punish. I like the effect this has had on duels, where you can no longer use kick as an I win button. What I don't like is what it has done to manual blocker vs shield user fights.
  12. WTF HAPPENED TO KICK?

Feints are useless against anyone smart enough to hold down rightmouse button till they hear a thud. Same goes for spamming, it might work on new players, it won't work on anyone half competent. That leaves attacking when the shield user feints, which is risky, since if he doesn't feint but just attacks, you'll get hit. The last option is using footwork to get behind the shield, which is hard to do against a decent player. In short if you come up against a good player with a shield, there is little you can do but bash away at his shield and pray he makes a mistake before you do.
