    [Suggestion] Drastic Changes to Kick

    Problems with the kick are

    a) They can be used to frequently. Generally when one person kicks another person the other person becomes offended at being kicked, so they make it their mission to get revenge and kick the other man like two men spitting on eachother and it turns into THUNK-THUNK-THUNK-THUNK bouncing back and forth until a teammate comes and finishes one of them off.

    b) You can kick while jumping. I don't know why, it doesn't play an animation and it just looks stupid, some guy gets close to you and you hear a thunk but you don't see a kick. And I swear i've seen this happen not just when jumping but many times I get kicked and I don't even see the other guy play kick animation.

    c) it's pretty ****ing annoying. and I use it a lot so i'd know. It's great for fending off 3 guys.

Now, as for the facehugger complaints, it sounds like you guys are being whiny *****es because you are being faced with a counter to your indefeatable weapon combo. What the **** do you expect guys with shields and one handed axes or maces to do? Their point is to close in on their opponent who has a long weapon and then take advantage of their more agile weapon to wreck them in close combat. That's why they're used in real life too. I don't understand why people are so queer for two handed swords when they might as well be a novelty weapon, and that's what they are. The game should reflect that. If you do not give the shield and hatchet/mace/onehandedsword user some reason to use those weapons, everybody just starts carrying long axes and two handed swords. Not only does it look stupid but it's wrong.

And I personally think that's bull****. Every weapon has a counter, that's how real life works. Pikes counter cavalry. Cavalry counter crossbowmen and infantry. Crossbowmen counter pikemen. Sword and shield infantry counter pikemen. As for the two handers and great axe and hammer men, well, those are pretty much shock troops and intimidation. Say there are men in a fortified building, a guy with a big ass axe, will crack shields and put the fear into them, a big hammer block crushing a guy and knocking him to the floor will surprise most people before they can react to him effectively but as for regular combat he shouldn't retain the advantage against a one hander and shield user.

The game should reflect that, and really, the fact that everybody can use a two hander or big axe not only effectively but more effectively than the standard sword/mace/handaxe and shield, really takes away the coolness of those two handed rape weapons.

You know, if I see a player using some really uncommon powerful but hard to use weapon, I can respect that. It stands out and looks cool. It can even be intimidating. I remember when I was one of the only guys running around with a hammer and no shirt. People didn't know how to react and i'd destroy them. Then everybody was swinging them around and they stopped being cool. Turned into RUNE or something. it's cheesy.

[Suggestion] Walk button & Class restrictions

    CalenLoki 说:
If you want to walk, hold block - you wont run.

No for restrictions - as Iberion said.

Nope, that's worthless. Without a walk button, the players with less equipment run faster than those with heavy equipment, and then the formation gets all broken to **** whenever they try to move ahead. A walk button that remains at the same speed regardless of equipment would be perfect.

[BUG] Severe FPS drop since .40

Started playing and the game ran amazingly good for me in .630

then I started to play again around .660 and I got massive fps lag.

I play with the lowest settings possible at 640 x 480 at 16bit.

I don't know what it is but .630 runs great. Smoother than even regular mount and blade ran.

Now, I play a average of 15fps. And the game is mostly unplayable. Strangely, it'll seem as if the game will run noticably smoother (not as good as .630 though) on some days or perhaps it's some servers. There is seemingly no correlation to it. I might restart, close every unecessary programs, and the game will still run badly, another time I might not even close the extra programs and maybe have not restarted my pc in a couple days and it'll run good. Somedays it'll bad and good in the same sitting. But generally it runs unplayably bad now.

and to boot, like a lot of other players i've been experiencing those weird slow downs or freeze ups when an enemy, especially one on a horse approaches.

    [suggestion] Making the spear workable.

    Hanniba1 说:
This is unnecessary, you're opting to change the spear without learning to play it well first. Spear with shield should only have one directional attack because its a primarily defensive position for fighting calvary. If you see someone charging you with a two hand weapon, scroll away your shield and fight two handed. One block can get you into the range of a long weapon and a horizontal attack will stun them enough for you to start merrily poking and feinting away.

The spear is a two hand weapon, learn to manual block and you'll be amazed.

Stupid. It's not primarily a defensive position, not should any weapon be so ****ty as to only be used in one rare circumstance. Second, you are supposed to be able to fight properly with a shield and spear. Like the guy above me said they're one of the most common weapons of all time. In real life, it would be stupid to carry your shield and then get rid of it to fight and just as well it takes you out of the game to see some guy doing that.

And i'm sure most of the people that play this game are have busted a nut over 300 and would like to see a spear with a shield used properly. I don't think shield and spear should have any swings, but I believe the overhead thrust will not only look cool but also add variety to the attacks and animations (therefore making the game look more natural and less like a game) as well give the spear user something to use when an enemy begins to close in on them, and perhaps it would be the perfect move to compliment a well placed kick.
I believe the attack should be faster and shorter range. And slightly less damage to reflect the faster stabbing speed and smaller reach. I think this is perfect because, one the regular stab is great for taking down horses but it's too unwieldy and the charge is too long when an opponent is close up.

Imagine this, an opponent on a horse crashes into a shieldwall but gets stuck on the second rank, 3 men stab his horse and everybody is struggling to attack the guy on the floor because their regular stab is too slow due to it's long reaching stab and also because the animation causes the shield carrier to raise the shield up to their chest level partially blocking their vision making it hard to see opponents on the ground. Most of all the animation so slow and doesn't match what somebody would do or be capable of doing with their opponent that close.

How about instead, this happens again, this time the spearmen have their overhead stab, it lowers their shield partially to allow the quick overhead stab which allows them to look down and see the guy on the ground and better aim their stab and they mercilessly jab his body.

Alternatively. Spear and shield user is being closed in on by a longswordsman or axe carrier. Longswordsman notices his opponents weapon and blocks down instinctively until he gets closed enough to swing. Then he hacks him apart, breaks his shield and massacres him. Not only does it look stupid watching the guy close in on him doing the stab block animation and not getting hit even though every point of his body is vulnerable, but it's stupid that the spear is gimped so badly in that way.

Now with overhead stab. Spear and shield user is not so afraid and scared this time around and is able to feint and
keep his opponent at bay adding some complexity to the fight as the swordsman cannot simply close the distance in skill-less way. Of course, the swordsman still has the advantage in this fight because he would simply have to block upward but with the kick, combined with the overhead stab, he could not be taken advantage of by a guy just holding upward block.
And now you have made a mostly unusable weapon completely functional.

I think a good idea, although sort of unrelated would be to increase the parry stun time based on how cumbersome the weapon is. Which makes sense. If you knock a heavy axe or long heavy pike head away in way that the arm is not prepared to hold it, it's going to be much harder to get it ready to attack again and cause the guy holding it to lose his balance.

That's the realistic weakness of the spear and why a sword and shield user will still have an advantage over them, cumbersomeness of the spear.

Another good idea would be to make it so that when you stab your spear into the shield of your opponent, it should stop your opponent from moving forward almost like a kick stun, but without knocking him out of the animation, and much shorter a duration. This would simulate the pushing warfare. Note: it should only stop him from moving towards the direction of the spear, and only for a short time like even a quarter second is fine, just to stop his momentum a tiny bit.

To reflect this boost, and also because it makes sense to me from a realistic standpoint, I believe that spears should have extremely reduced damage to shields. Which makes sense as it it's not a hacking weapon, It might put a dent in something but you try breaking a single board of wood with a spear. Seeing a stabbing weapon causing a shield to shatter (heavy lances and horsemen lances and so on not included) looks pretty retarded in my opinion. So this should be added regardless of anything else I've said.

Anyways they're a good reason that evolution of warfare ended up with pikes, crossbows/guns, and cavalry. Those are what is most effective realistically.

Idea: How a bout an extra weapon slot on a horse?

the original slots are fine. Don't ruin the game.

[Suggestion] Draw all two handed swords from the hip

I have a sword and drawing it from the back is not very hard at all. Even easier if it's only fastened to your back at at point closer to the hilt allowing it to swivel and make unsheathing even easier. Sure, in combat i'd probably carry the sheath in my hand or on my belt but it's not a big deal and I personally think that a giant sword dragging around from a belt will look retarded because it'll just be floating there in the air at 45 degree angle as the guy trods around looking gay.

Second, that guy in the youtube video is lameass. He's one of those guys that doesn't understand style at all and actually believes that we should not have unsheathing sounds in movies because it's unrealistic. Well, if midieval re-enactors are any example of realistic melee combat then **** realism because they all look like clumsy overweight dorks with some of the most boring combat i've ever seen. As well, i'm sure he thinks we should take muzzle flashes out of movies. He probably also believes that firing a desert eagle will "break your wrist."

First of all, nothing makes me feel cooler than pulling out my weapon and hearing a nice scabbardy scrapey sound. I guess we should also remove the sounds of a sword cutting into flesh because in real life cutting into flesh doesn't make any noise.

You know what, for realism's sake lets remove every satisfying, cool looking thing. What I wanted to do was play as a clumsy fat nerd in baggy chain mail bumping into other fat nerds. Let's add a stamina bar and a hunger meter, let's make it so armored players get tired if they swing their swords 15 times in 2 minutes. Let's make it so you have to feed your horses. Let's also make it so all players start out with only enough money for a pitch fork or butcher knife and a +1 defense tunic. And if you die, you can't respawn. The game uninstalls itself, and deletes windows and shuts off your computer.

[Suggestion] Shirts for naked players [Video added]

    This idea is retarded.

one, most of the armor for both factions are similarly colored. iron, chainmail, leather is the same color for both sides. Lots of factions share the same or similar looking armor or clothing and even weapons. So the argument that it's too hard to identify team based on that is retarded.

What we need are better team indicators or an option to increase visibility.

As of now the team indicators are based on banner choice rather than some easy to identify icon that is unique to each faction, as well they are transparent and blend into the enviroment, even more so if the banner color is an earth tone.

Second, I ****ing like being a barbarian. I like not having a shirt on. It looks cool, that's why I do it. I keep shoes on. I think the barefoot thing is kind of stupid but I don't mind it. I want to look like conan, or some other badass. Don't force me to wear some crappy shirt if I don't want to. If anytihng I find it really cool when I see some barbarian dudes with no shirts on and big mustaches riding around. It doesn't take me out of the game, who's to say people never took their shirt off in battle.

Third, My idea for a good way of showing team is this. Either a tourniquet on the arm of a certain color (just like in real war) to signify faction or a sash. Possibly both, say the player is carrying a shield, perhaps he has a sash  in case his shield makes his arm not very visible. But if he does not have a shield a simple wrist or bicep tourniquet is both visible and could even look cool.

All you'll have to do see is a bit of green, red, blue or whatever color on some guy and you'll know right away which side he is on. It looks fine stylistically, does not drastically force the player's costume to change by some great amount and better yet, we can remove the floating indicators that take away immersion or make them an option.  I think that you should only see them on your teammates, as I do not want to be hiding in the shadows with a bow, and have some guy see me because my arm band is really bright.

Warpaint sounds cool but I think it should be an optional armor (not a team indicator) that maybe adds athletics speed and but does not increase defense if that is at all possible. The thing about warpaint is it stops being cool when everybody has the same exact pattern of warpaint on. As well, I don't expect factions like swadia or rhodoks to have warpaint, nor do I really expect it on the khergits. Personally I don't think it's a good idea.

[Suggestions] AWESOME NEW 1H BLOCK ANIMATIONS!

    kingofnoobia 说:
If the animation would continue (and force the parrying player to play through the anim), what would be the point of parrying altogether, as you would not be able to counterattack quickly? I say nay, fine as is.

edit: I must agree with you on their sheer awesomeness though .

do you not know how to read? His entire post is like 2 sentences long and he says it right there "The animation should only be canceled if the player who does the parry either attacks/kicks/jump etc."

Do you like Reflective Friendly Fire?!

I'm going to have to agree with the argument that, in real life, i'd be more coordinated and have more precise movements at my disposal than some heavy handed hugely arcing side swing. I'd have all the digonals, i'd have quick jabs and pokes with no start up to them to keep the enemy back. And generally, I know i'd be smart enough to pull my weapon a little closer to myself if I had my friends close by.

Combat right now is frustrating to say the least. And really, it wouldn't necessarily bother me that much except that it's so hard to tell a teammate from a friend most of the time.

Considering the team indicators are based on your banners, And those banners are transparent, and often times colors that blend in with the enviroment, compound that with the fact that most or all teams do not have any obvious uniforms, especially if you have a few players on both teams who decided to go naked or wear similar clothing. Then you got a game where you're squinting constantly while stumbling around holding your overhand swing to try to figure out what to do.

I do not think slowing the game down and forcing people to spread out large amounts in order to work effectively as a team mirrors reality. Nor does it make the game more fun.

People are coordinated enough to fight in lumbering phalanxes, tighly woven formations of swordsmen and so on. I think most people in reality are coordinated enough to not accidentally slice their teammates like some limp wristed child swinging a rattle around.

I think until combat becomes deeper, that melee ff is simply a retarded thing to implement right now. We are forced to use either stab or overhead most of the time and avoid our teammates. Overhead being the slower of the attacks and just plain not looking very cool most of the time and more than that, it requires more mouse wiggling to get the option to appear than the horizontal swings do. And that makes the game feel very clunky. On top of that not all the weapons have stab attacks. We don't have very close range-fighting, and until we do, we are forced to rely on swings with big arcs that are very likely to hit our team mates, and that doesn't work in a game with melee ff.

And it further makes the stabbing weapons better than the non-stabbing weapons.

    etc.

If you could change ONE thing about Warband what would it be?

I know this thread says one thing but **** it. I'll say multiple ONE things.

-Better performance for ****ty computers, but I guess this won't matter to me as much when I get a new pc.

-More character customization, like war paint, more haircuts, a headband. I dunno. Cool stuff. I'd really like some top knots and mohawks. Maybe the ability to pick the color of your clothing.

-A japanese inspired kingdom/race/whatever. I can just imagine speedier but less damaging to armor swords, yari, naginata, . Rice hats, kimonos, hakama, topknots and whatever.

Although I can imagine a bunch of japanophiles flocking to this game in order to play as them. But whatever, a bunch of brutal Nords with axes will **** them up.

-Some better maps would be nice.

-Oh yes, dismemberment. It would be great if I knocked some dude off his horse and then as he layed there on the ground I knocked his block off with an axe or simpyl turned his head into spaghetti sauce with a well placed hammer blow.
