For the most part, yeah. However, the game generates a lot of variables (Lord personalities, lord relations) at the very beginning of each game that affect how successful a kingdom might be. Swadia is naturally in a really bad spot, so unless the lords like each other and don't have bad personalities, they're most likely going to be one of the first two kingdoms out of the game (FWIW, the other kingdom is usually the Khergits.)

As for staging a coup: How far are you into your game? For starters, you will want at least 15-20 Right to Rule, otherwise negotiating treaties won't happen. You'll also want a nice stash of cash set aside; usually a minimum of 100,000 denars, though I try for 200,000 before I become independent.

That last note makes tournaments that are any/all cavalry very boring.

It makes it faster for me. Whenever I am running 100% textures and hit ctrl-x to upgrade a troop, the framerate tanks for a second or so. If I am pressing ctrl-x repeatedly, my framerate is just absolutely dead, and the game doesn't receive a good chunk of my input (i.e. it seems some of my "ctrl-x" jamming isn't registered). However, with my textures down to 10%, the framerate drop is nowhere near as drastic, which allows the game to receive more of the input I give and upgrade my troops more quickly.

Though I do agree that a ctrl-****-x option would be nice. I think my solution only really works on old machines and I haven't had the luxury of trying my solution on a new machine.

The biggest motivation to get the DVD is if you have a slow internet at your house (except it comes with steam, lol.)

That would be a total distance of 192-240 miles, assuming you travel non-stop. I don't have a problem with the distance, but I think that the fact that troop morale doesn't tank after 48 hours of constant movement is a little far-fetched.

You'll be surprised how many people you can fit into an area of that size. I can imagine six political factions rising up in an area like that, exploiting the confined populace and causing massive amounts of death and destruction.

Actually, I had this problem when I played WB on steam. I could log in to steam and then disconnect from my internet (dial-up) and play offline. However, if I played with cheats disabled, I would often/always crash when trying to interact with a town. When I enabled cheats, I was able to play offline. I figured it was something to do with the steam achievements.

Not sure on what you're basing this thread. Maybe Artiminmer's stray comment about Culmarr Castle, "Like most castles that last around here, it's got foundations that are old Imperial Calradic. You can't see them any more with all the rebuilding, but the slabs are the size of a house. They must have been real sorcerors back in those days, because I don't see how they moved those things otherwise."

How about aliens? We all know that aliens helped the Egyptians build their pyramids, so I don't think that aliens will be too much of a stretch in M&B2
