  1. The Last Days v2.4 (for .808) ---Next Release Date Unknown!

I offer all folks who wish for LOTRish fun to play Dwarf Fortress.

Or just suck it up and play the version already out, which is most excellent.

If you're REALLY bored, play with cheats and with battle sizes at around 200 or so on the .808 version.

And eat people. because's it's funny to eat Theoden in front of his capital. Oh so funny when the next message you get is a massive loss of moral from the Rohan people.

You know what people should do rather than moaning about dev's work progress?

Capturing Lords and eating them in front of their faction's leaders.

You have no idea how much I appreciate that little bit of insight.  My last backup save was three game weeks ago before I attacked the Swadians to set up my own kingdom, and I REALLY didn't want to have to go through taking Dhirim again with a party size of 37.  The first time it took all 108 of my converted Sea Raiders and 7 sallies before the final assault.

Does it take time to switch kingdom culture?  I'd really rather have Vaegir defenders for my vassals' castles (or Nords that I can poach  ), and I'm thinking of just switching cultures right before and after fights.

If you build 11 engines, can you assign more than 5 on the pre-battle deployment screen?  How do you end up cheating the enemy out of his engines?  And wouldn't you end up with 5 engines right next to his spawn point or do all 10 appear by yours?

Glad to help, and I don't think so, was fussed up with not having Swadian fire, dispite having the engies, then relized all my vassals had Vaegir troops, doh. Switched it and entered a battle about 3 game hours later, and was using SF with 'em. I've also noticed SF is far more accurate than any other ammo too.

I'm assuming it's a bug as well, that's going to be fixed with the next release (I hope not, such a hassle to train up more elite troops) but you can select up to 11 "crews" per battle, and it's a 6 to 10 chance you'll steal all the engines, it depends on the map (stick to slightly hilly areas, as that'll usually have 6-7 slots for engines available. Be warned though, the crews are not very smart, and if given the chance will take over your enemy's engines and start shooting at you. it's even more annoying when it's your ally's crew, as you can't tell them to stop firing.

and you'll get on average about 6-10 (from what I've seen, I'll do pictures when possible) engines, with them cranking out only one, but there's also the chance that you'll /steal/ their catapult and it'll magically zoom to your crew.

Having an odd problem: my Swadian engineers can no longer use Swadian fire.  I built 5 trebuchets, and was using the fire fine, then decided to experiment with using Vaegir and Merc engineers to operate them so as not to risk my swadians in a siege but still have some artillery if I was surprised by a relief force.  Ever since, I can't use Swadian fire anymore, even if I build brand new trebuchets with Swadians exclusively.  Any  cure for this other than starting a new game and NEVER, EVER mixing engineer types?

Change your kingdom culture to Swadian

and you have to be a purist and only have swad engies.

    /on topic

I adore this mod so much, there is nothing like going against the Swadian king and his entire kingdom's vassels...

and nuking them all with Swadian fire

Also, dunno if it's already been mentioned (Thread was tl;dr 'd ) but if you have 11 trebuchets, you can often times cheat the enemy out of his siege engines, making it from an 'I'm going to die' situation' to 'DIE and DIE SOME MORE!' one.

My favorite tactic so far is to keep about 40 or so engineers with me, and modded Vaegir troops (dunno why I like them so much, must be because of Homeworld 2). AKA about 50-70 Marksmen, 30-40 Guards, and 20-60 (dependant on my foe) Knights.

With the seige engines behind or me, I first tell all my troops to hold the spawn point, then move knights behind the SEs, put my archers in front to provide a hailstorm of arrows ( Their arrows weren't totally changed to bodkin with a 600 quiver >.> or they totally don't have War bows.) While the infantry provides screening support from horses/knights. The SEs are set on full auto when fully manned and all the pretty explosions + Smoke lags my game
  5. Troop Formations!

now the game so far has really no detailed commands all straight forward which can make a game like this which is i think the point of right no for is to kill each other.. and keep killling untill you enough money to buy more mercenaries or recruit more soldiers then to keep killing again with the same commands of cHargee!! or follow me then hold postion CHARge... im sure once you guys read this ull get just as bored as it were if you were playing the game  so new commands like spliting your troops into units or for you archers to push forword out of the line to fire even though you can do.. archers follow me move up a few steps ooo wait no the archers are to far ooo no there horse men are coming and smash rite into your archers because you didnt have enough time to tell them to follow you back before you even got them into position.

    My tactics on battlelines.

Infantry 10-15 paces away, on a lower gradient if possible, Archers posted as high as possible, but clumped, any knights/etc are pulled back to protect flanks.

Archers will open up and nail some guys, just use 'spread out' a few times to allow the arches to shoot through infantry lines without hurting your guys.

Knights are really good for pinning and killing off a majority of baddies before anything really serious happens
  6. Overhaul of villages (long)

Dunno if this has been posted or not, but I'd like to be able to call up people in the Taverns again, go to a raided village and help start rebuilding it.

I'll more than willingly dump a couple thousand and give workers to 'em.

I'd also like to station a garrison in them as well, if I've got a handful of idle troops, I'd like to dump them into my frontier villages with a companion 'Lieutenant' who'd actually be worth a damn without my chara always having to watch over >.>

It'd be nice to have the companions become your lords during a conquest of nations
  7. How would you go about beseiging a city?

I've fiddled with the Troop editor to give the guys a single set of equipment, so what I do during seiges is tell my infantry to hold ground a little aways from the ramp, then tell my archers to hold behind them.

I've found that if the closest enemy is a ranged, they'll all put up their shields, efectivlly making a shield wall and absorbing arrow shots. My archers can then pick off a majority of the foes before I lead the assault with a full infantry charge.
  8. Most awesome moment in M+B?

    BoW,  v.903

about 60 ranger guardians and 90 Ranger Matrons + 10 or so companions

All outfitted with my crest and with longbows/ bastard swords + kite shields.

The enemy: Nord hoard numbering over 700.
Terrain: flat lowlands, but with a few rather high hills

The battle starts and all units spawn onto the field (I've got the setting at around 400 or so) and I'm lucky to have a very nicely shaped hill for my army. The weather is clear and sunny, about mid-day. My two lines of battle-hardened troops take up their spots and wait for my ranging shot, (I've noticed that sometimes the Archers will not engage until the player does a single shot into the mob of enemies, to which the troops open fire). I take aim with my Silver bow I looted from a Swadian lord and let loose; it strikes the enemy commander and unhorses him. With that, my troops let loose a hail of arrows which almost blacken the sky. Lines after lines of Nordic barbarians fall with enough arrows to be considered pincushions. Once all arrows were spent, my troops drew their blades and raised their shields in readiness for the battle. only a few stragglers remained at this point, being that my men had expertly nail all but about 50 or so, scattered and demoralized at the losses suffered. With a war cry, I ordered both lines to advance and started to overpower the enemy in melee combat. After a few short minuets, and a screen full of green casualty reports, my troops yelled their victory.

I lost no-one in that fight, not even any wounded.

I love my professional army
  9. You know you've played too much M&B when...

. . . when you mod the most elite troops of your chosen faction to have uniforms and one set of gear, mod them to become a personal army, then gloat about it to your parents and friends.

also, when you personally think that armies should target the knights first, or they'll just get run over again and again and again.
  10. Food Indicator

I'd personally like a days counter of food

One that showed up as you 'wait for tomorrow' while sieging a town or castle so you know if you'll outlast the defenders or not.
  11. Expanding the quiver amount

I think one of the devs should post a table on what the numbers all stand for

  12. Expanding the quiver amount

    Ehh... python is flummoxing, >.>

but I got what I needed, and it works ^.^
  13. Expanding the quiver amount

Excellent! thank you very much ^^

Now I have an Idea on fixing all the values to more favorable ones.
  14. Expanding the quiver amount

I'd like to have enough arrows to last a long battle without having to give up my long sword for it. I've tried to look at the Python, but that's looking like for people who want to make a mod of their own, and not just edit the stats already in game. Like, instead of 27 arrows, I'd go for 50...
