    Smithing is so broken

I really hope for a hotfix soon. I like the new patch a lot but this bug is really frustrating to deal with, especially since I usually enjoy playing Endurance builds the most.

    Beta Patch Notes e1.8.0

Hey, what do you mean by losing blacksmith patterns? Do you mean you lose all of your unlocked crafting pieces?
I have the same problem. I craft/smelt a few weapons (for example onehanded swords) and unlock a few pieces. Then I save the game, exit to menu and reload the save and all unlocked parts are gone and I have to start all over again. This bug is breaking smithing currently.

Elden ring is thrash, please release a new update

For me Elden Ring is the best game since a very long time and even surpasses Witcher 3 and Skyrim (unmodded). I don't have to grind anything in Elden Ring, character progression feels meaningful, the bosses are a blast and feel challenging but fair, the mount is awesome, ashes of war give so many options, the world building is the best which I have ever seen (especially the underground areas, like going down the sewers in the capitol and whenever you think that you are at the end there's an invisible wall which allows to go down even further). The only feature which I don't like are the summons but I just don't use them instead of complaining about them (some bosses have so few offensive windows that it feels like they were balanced around summons which I don't like tho). Also FromSoft doesn't seem to be obsessed with playing fun police and nerfing 90% of what players are using into the ground.

What I figured out is that defense in ER is far more important than it was in previous games. Using defensive amulets, boiled crab consumeable, golden vow buff, using that special flask (using the crystal tears which reduce equip load so much that you can always use fast roll and the one which boosts my magic resistance), defensive ashes like bloodhound step and heavy armor really helps a lot. On my first playthrough I got a bit frustrated as well because I was playing the game like Dark Souls but once I started to care about my mitigation and utilized ashes of war the game became a lot easier than Dark Souls, even without using summons.

I can see that some people who like RP and side activities don't enjoy Elden Ring but in terms of action combat and world exploration it's one of the best games out there while also being very accessable. The thread reads like a pure troll thread, bashing a game which has nothing to do with Bannerlord because the OP doesn't like it. Elden Ring was trending higher than Minecraft (which is considered as the most popular game by far) for 2 months, which is massive.

    Statement regarding Singleplayer IV

Really looking forward to see the buffs to skill XP changes and armor and the option to respec :giggle:

Might have been already answered somewhere but is an import/export function planned for characters like it is in Warband? Would kinda act similar to New Game+ from other games like Elden Ring/Dark Souls.

With changes to crafting and unlocking parts is there any chance that we'll be able to craft bows and crossbows at some point?

Is the dynasty mechanic wasted feature and is it also the reason fast paced combat agenda pushed by TW?

I don't like the feature, I'm glad that they gave us the option to turn birth/death off. The current character progression for both the main char and companions is way too slow for me to play with death enabled.

Is the opinion which there is so many new players introduced to M&B series with Bannerlord a myth?

I'm someone who got introduced to the series with Bannerlord actually. Started playing Bannerlord but it was really bugged at release and so I started to play Warband and recently started Bannerlord again. I think the biggest reasons why new players stop playing are that the game is pretty difficult and that it takes a while to get used to it, many are waiting for final release (don't want to learn such a complex game just to have to re-learn it after release) and a lot of people are mostly interested in the upcoming mods.

I'm not sure about that poll tbh. For a proper sample you need to select people randomly and selecting people that actively post on the M&B subreddit or the forums isn't random at all.

I wouldn't be worried, the franchise overall has a lot of players (steamcharts) and there are a lot reasons to play something else currently: Early Access, this patch is getting pretty old and other games releases like Elden Ring.

    I’m having fun

I'm happy to hear that you are also enjoying the game!

We are still adjusting the economy and character development and have some changes coming in the next beta patch that are related to these issues. Similarly, we are still adding content to the game that looks to add more depth and options for players throughout their playthrough while also streamlining the more tedious parts.
Glad to hear that this is on the radar and gets fixed :xf-smile: The tedious parts are the main reason why I don't do as many playthroughs as I want to (and have death disabled), leveling up everything again feels like a chore for some skills (especially Athletics, Medicine, Scouting, Riding, Rougery, Tactics and Trading are such a pain to level up).

    I’m having fun

I'm enjoying the game a lot too, haven't played M&B before Bannerlord released, started to play Warband when Bannerlord released (because of the bugs during release) and immediately fell in love with the franchise. Recently picked up Bannerlord again and the game feels like an unpolished gem. Overall the game looks extremely beautiful and is a lot of fun but it also has some issues which hurt the replayability a bit, like it feels grindy with how slow skills level, economic being unbalanced (smithing is kinda the only early-mid game side activity which is worth doing, caravans/workshops/tournaments/trading are rather disappointing) and the endgame is tedious.

You also have to keep in mind that people usually come to the forums when they are unhappy about something. Pretty much every game forum is mostly negative, most of them are far worse than this one.

    Beta Patch Notes e1.7.2

The early announcement just indicates that lots of work is left to do. If the clarification is made late in the week, it's because there is still a chance for the patch to hit beforehand (however small).

RE Roadmap - You can review our long term plans here
The roadmap says that there are plans for skill experience gains, what can we expect from this? I did create a thread recently about leveling up skills and pretty much everybody there agrees that skills in general level too slow with some of them leveling far too slow. Some of the really problematic skills to level up are Medicine, Rougery, Athletics, Scouting, Riding (it seems to level properly when using a bow but gaining XP with meele weapons feels bugged) and Trading.

I'm totally fine with leveling up weapon skills for example because that happens passively by playing the game. What bothers me are the skills which you have to do very specific things to level them up, like Smithing for example. It feels unsatisfying to spend 1-2 hours with "waiting and clicking" in order to level it up because I did already put skill points in there. This just makes the game feel more grindy and tedious which hurts the replayability in my opinion and makes me miss Warband where I get an immediate benefit after leveling up for all skills except weapon master.

Your Opinion on TW 'No confirmed information on up-coming patch content' Policy

In my opinion it's bad and really hurts the game. Better communication would allow people to give more feedback about what they like and what they don't and it would also allow people to prepare better for the patches. Nobody wants to constantly re-learn a game with every patch so it'd be quite helpful to have an idea how the game is supposed to look like. For example a few days ago a developer said in a thread that they are going to buff revenue from workshops. That's awesome and we need a lot more of this, stuff like that matters a lot for the players.

Leveling skills is tedious and unbalanced

But what if you gave a whole new set of Quests that could dramatically alter your skill setting. For example 7 Peoples of Importance be assassinated by sniper bow fire -if you do it in a certain amount of time or some other factors -you may get a large boost in that Perk/Skill where as in if you only complete 50% , you get far less. I dont know im just thinking off the cuff -but i just like the chance similar to finding some rare gem or weapon as loot, to have a Quest pay me back big time in reward as like a Special Reward

Just my opinion but id prefer it over the current mindless grind quests
You changed my mind, that sounds cool actually. At first I thought that you wanted to tie skill progress to stuff like caravan escort quests etc ^^

Leveling skills is tedious and unbalanced

Dont get me wrong I dont want us to lvl from peasent to warlord in days, but when it takes "years" for some of the skills it feels "not rewarding" too me, feels like a chore/grind.
That's exactly the point. Something is wrong when it feels like a chore/grind (especially in a singleplayer game).

This sounds like the simplest and most boring solution, but what is funny is it's the most efficient and fun one. I don't know why it's so hard to design a likable skill based character development.
I'm not saying that the current system in Bannerlord can't work or can't be fun but it's a lot harder to balance and make it fun. It comes with so many problems which needs to be fixed and there needs to be a lot of finetuning.

Leveling skills is tedious and unbalanced

I think the core issue of why the leveling is "boring" basically or not good enough atm isnt directly that we feel forced to do xyz as much.

But the skills overall in some cases dont progress fast enough.
I kinda agree, I don't expect them to rework the entire system. Making the skills level up much faster would be a good compromise.

Arguably bannerlord copied Skyrims leveling system. Use the skill to gain the skill. And Skyrim certainly suffers from the same issue in terms of advancing some skills.

    Just food for thought.
While I love Skyrim I can't deny that the game doesn't have issues. Leveling up Destruction magic is insanely slow for example but the game gives a workaround with trainers (it's easier to just become the richest person in Tamriel and buy your destruction up to 100 than leveling it in the "intended" way). Fallout 4 leveling is completely different and is more like the traditional Warband: Kill stuff, do quests, get XP from it and put it into perks. Same as Elden Ring. Just kill stuff, get runes, use these to level up and stronger opponents give more runes. Pretty simple and gets the job done.

Do any Quests tie into more rapid or advanced or specialized Perks/Attributes building? That would be one way to liven up the Quests while at the same time helping this issue
Not sure what to think about that to be honest. Most of the current quests are rather boring than fun, definitely don't want to grind them.

Making skills level up faster (at least some of them) would be the easiest and fastest solution and wouldn't require TW to put much effort into it.

Leveling skills is tedious and unbalanced

I miss the warband levelling system. The core gameplay loop of M&B is to fight battles, and the warband levelling played into that. You fight and win battles, get experience, level up, and invest your points where needed. But with bannerlord you're forced to do busywork to get anywhere. Like, I don't want to spend hours acting like a ****ing merchant to get my trade skill high, I want to fight **** and win battles. With the warband system, you could do exactly that, and just invest your skill points into trading if that's what you wanted.
Exactly, I prefer doing that too.

I strongly disagree. The core gameplay loop of M&B is to do what you want within the confines of the game mechanics, it's a sandbox for a reason. If you dont want to fight battles because you're roleplaying a merchant, you don't have to. Playing as a merchant is supposed to be a viable route if you are so inclined, and WB leveling system absolutely sucked for this. Yes, the current system has many issues and problems, but WB was not ideal.

To me it makes perfect sense that doing the thing you want to do is what makes you good at it. It was always very stupid to me that you leveled trading by slaughtering enemies. Makes no logical sense and is very poor for roleplay. Not to mention that if you slaughter enemies to get good at trading, you effectively handicap yourself because you're not leveling ways of slaughtering more enemies to get more xp. So the whole system, while in certain ways very comfy, was ass-backwards.
Fair enough, WB leveling isn't good for roleplayers. Maybe a fair compromise would be to make leveling up skills much faster (at least some of them like Scouting, Medicine, Athletics, Riding, unlocking smithing parts...) and implement trainers into the game (similar to Skyrim) which allow you to buy your skill level up with money.
