I'm fine with the naked women and such, but one thing about this mod really irritates me.  It's not just this mod; rather, it's endemic to video games as a whole: the fact that women take to the field with their bellies, arms, upper chest, and thighs completely exposed.  For God's sakes, you could reverse the protected and unprotected bits on most of the Hot Chick Warriors and they would be safer, and this mod takes that to something of an extreme.

I don't care how many of your women are indecent, but I'm tired of Hot Chick Warriors wearing battle lingerie.  Armor is to protect the squishy bits from bleeding, not to serve as a striptease to excite the enemy.  If we'd all just stop with the warrior chicks wearing f*ck-me mail and instead just include a floating overlay window showing porn, it would be a lot more honest.

And if you absolutely have to have some half-naked women in the battlefield, then stick a bunch of naked painted-up warriors there, Celtic style.  At least that's more justifiable than the idea that a female soldier would painstakingly cut out holes in her armor for her tits and belly.

actually Assassins dress like that so they could be Assassins instead of warriors XD

Not to get too bickery, but a good assassin would wear, you know, clothes.  Half-naked women with bits of jangly metal all over them tend to attract attention, and it's damn near impossible to move around in tight, reinforced leather, so that doesn't work either.  If you were planning on breaking into people's estates and killing them, dressing like Fantasy Amazon Barbie isn't going to help.

Not that what people actually wore matters; it's clearly only a stylistic choice, and half-naked warrior chicks with improbable armor are often the type of style people want to create/play.  I suppose I'm just irritated that it's a style that is A) absolutely everywhere and B) never even remotely justified in-world, leading one to assume that 99% of blows landed on females must be aimed directly at the nipples or the crotch, since these are the only parts that are armored with any degree of consistency.

    - Nobody attack armed soldier with stones or wiht clubs, if yes he must be brave or crazy
    - If i am farmer in some colony on alien planet i will have weapons for defend(some hunting rifles, pistols...)

Sure, they do.  Not one-on-one, obviously, but during riots and uprisings people will use whatever they can for an improvised weapon.  Rock-throwing has even taken on special cultural significance in Palestine, where people see themselves as downtrodden and oppressed people occupied by a hostile power with overwhelming military superiority***.  During the "farmer" battles, you're effectively leading an uprising; you've gathered a bunch of farmers with whatever they could grab and you're going to beat the crap out of the bad guys.  Sure, some will have hunting rifles, and others personal defense pistols, but plenty will have nothing more than what they were able to find and use as a weapon.

I mean, take the Skywalker/Lars family at the beginning of Episode IV as an example, who seem somewhat prosperous as farmers go, having two landspeeders, some droids, a T-16 airspeeder, and the ability to hire extra hands.  Yet only one weapon ever appears on-screen at any point in their residence, IIRC: a hunting rifle as a prop in the background, and I don't think there's anything in the EU suggesting they had anything but that hunting rifle.  Suppose they were in this game, then, both as Farmers.  Well, say Luke gets his hunting rifle.  What does Owen take?  I'd imagine he takes a particularly heavy or sharp tool.

***I am expressly neither promoting, defending, or attacking this idea.  Let's not get into an Israel/Palestine discussion; the point is just that people often do throw rocks even against people with machine guns and tanks, both of which are as effective as anything in the Star Wars universe.

I think some should indeed have stones, clubs, and the like; I don't think it's reasonable to expect that every poor farmer keeps an arsenal in his home.  Even today, in many parts of the world, people will throw stones at soldiers--and frankly, our real-world armies are a good deal more competent than their Star Wars counterparts are.  At the same time, I do think it's equally unrealistic to expect that none would have weapons.  So would something like this work for the farmers (and for trainee_peasant, and tax_rebel)?

18 agility for using lightsaber? wtf? Maybe 14 -i like that idea but 18 agility is too much

Well, we can't do AGI anyway at the moment; that would require difficult changes.  Right now we're going for 16 STR, which I think is pretty reasonable, since melee characters usually stack STR anyway, for HP/Power Strike/Ironflesh bonuses.  Plus, STR also governs Force Throw, so it works out okay for Jedi characters.

you could make the music pack a separate optional download. I think you're more likely to get crap for that than for the mod itself. After all, music piracy is a big priority for the 'big companies' whereas people imitating their products for a fan mod with a very limited playerbase is not.

BTW on the subject of companions, perhaps the stats should be looked at as well? Right now they seem very generic and not in line with the hiring cost. I pay a lot of money for one guy to join me, who has pretty much the same stats as another guy who's cheap or free. And I like the native thing where some heroes are healers, others are engineers, etc. This could tie in with the dialog so you actually know beforehand who you're hiring.

Already on it.  I've got new dialogue for each of 'em, and their stats will match their dialogue.  Cost adjustment will come a bit later, but really even in Native the cost was kind of screwy.  I mean, Ymira and Jeremus were probably the most useful, and they were free.  Matheld, on the other hand, was virtually useless (and conflicted with Ymira), but tended to be pricy.

I strongly agree with an 18-agi minimum on lightsabers, or perhaps something like Power Throw 5, with Power Throw renamed "force affinity."  While I think the "unlockable" vendor is a great idea, even then you shouldn't be able to buy up dozens of sabers and hand them out to each of your companions.  After all, it's not like Obi-Wan gave Chewie and Han Solo lightsabers once Luke started his training.  I'm not sure if you can put non-strength limits on melee weapons, but heck, even if you can't do that easily, an absurdly high strength requirement would at least make it so you had to specialize a character before they got a lightsaber.

Keeping Jedi and Sith separate is a good idea.  I think The Eagle and the Radiant Cross is a good template to follow, where you had to join up with a kingdom to get their best units, and could only recruit them from cities.

My vote's for kaadu (though honestly I did not know those even existed).  The dewbacks are neat, but the kaadu look better to me in a way I can't quite explain.  Maybe it's the fact that it's a baby dewback, I don't know.

The speeder bikes are good, but I can't shake the feeling that it looks like people are stabling their bikes on hay beds in front of troughs, and that is silly.

Star Wars Conquest Mod for M&B 1.x and M&B Warband

Well, just so everyone's aware, I'm currently redoing all the companion dialogue.  It's coming along nicely; while the characters aren't KOTOR-level or anything, I think they're as complete and as well-defined as the Mount and Blade original cast.

Anyway, as for the legality?  Well, we're not on good grounds legally anyway.  In order for us to legally use images, names, sounds, and designs that are owned by LucasFilm, we'd have to prove fair use.  And that's not a winning bet  The conditions for consideration for fair use are:

           1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
           2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
           3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
           4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

#2 we lose on; Star Wars is as protected as intellectual property gets.  #3 we lose on; we're pretty much taking the entirety of Lucas's universe wholesale, and it doesn't matter if we're using their original images/designs or making our own reproductions of them.  #4 we lose on, actually, since it's pretty much precedent that our mod will be considered in direct competition with LucasArts' releases, and so we are diluting the market for Star Wars games in a small but real way by providing people with a non-LucasArts Star Wars game.

Our only legal hope, if they sent a cease and desist, would be under #1.  Usually this involves claiming your work is 'transformative' instead of 'derivative,' meaning that your work is something substantially different from the original.  Parodies are the most common example.  However, that's not the case at all; our work is intended to be an emulation of the original.  However, we are doing this entirely non-commercially, meaning there is no way that any of us could make any money on it in any way whatsoever.  But then again, TaleWorlds is, and the cease and desist would be sent to them anyway.  And it's likely that regardless of our case, a cease and desist from LucasArts would be enough to cause TW to scrub us.

But none of that matters, really.  To the best of my knowledge, none have ever gone to court.  Either a company throws out a cease and desist and the modders get scared and stop, or the company doesn't and the mod is made.  Our best defense is that nobody particularly cares about us.  There are thousands of fan-created mods for games that reappropriate intellectual property.  Some get shot down by cease-and-desists, but most don't.  When you get down to it, it's a very big ocean, and a handful of people making a mod for an indie game are a very small fish indeed.

But I can understand trying not to provoke them.  Taking the time to make our own models and characters and sounds and such is, I have to think, a show of good faith that this is a private project for mostly personal enjoyment and not a slapdash attempt to "play Star Wars" without taking the effort to actually buy a LucasArts game.

If you're looking for good, public domain, scifi-ish background music, the 1918 orchestral suite "The Planets" by Gustav Holst is a classic, especially "Mars, the Bringer of War."  Sound is a tricky one, though, because the music of John Williams is one of the things that most breathes life into the Star Wars brand.

Well, that all makes sense; not being a M&B modder myself, I don't know what your specific concerns and limitations are, but from prior programming experience I know that what seems obvious from the user end can be invisible or impossible to implement from the technical end.

Tell me, do you have a short-term plan for the companion/town vendor dialogue?  I assume you just haven't fixed them because that's so far down on the list of "things to change," but if you'd have use for it, I'd be happy to send you rewritten versions of their code to reflect a more Star Wars universe.  Don't need Marnid complaining about the Khergits and Ymira telling us how beautiful Veluca is, or to have the bike dealer tell us what a fine eye for horses he has.

Star Wars Conquest Mod for M&B 1.x and M&B Warband

Just downloaded this; it's very fun.  Surprisingly great work all around; it feels more Star Wars than it does M&B, which is something.  The space-combat emulator in the Training Room is very, very cool, despite the limited movements possible; it's a testament to the flexibility of the engine that it works.  And all the racial models are great; Gammoreans in particular tickle me, and it's fun to grab a Twi'lek head and stick it over Matheld's.

Anyway, a couple suggestions.  First, speeder bikes are awesome.  A bit too awesome; a handful of companions on bikes can rip through enemy lines like they were made of tissue paper.  As giddy as it made me to flank and then charge through an entire enemy spawn line (dealing 10-50 damage to each member thereof), that's a bit overpowered in a non-canon sort of way.  I'd consider dropping their hp down to 30-50 or so; in the movies, one solid hit pretty much ends the bike's utility as anything but a deathtrap.  That way they could still be used to get around on an enemy's flank, but you'd want to dismount (like Darth Maul did) once the actual fighting starts.

Secondly, would it be possible to give Force Lightning/Push a grenade-like aoe effect?  Right now, there's not much reason to use either excepting flavor; as it stands, hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side.  Along the same lines, I think throwing lightsabers should be a bit more powerful and should travel at a speed more akin to the throwing weapons in Native; it seems kind of strange to watch an 500-mph lightsaber go flying out of my character's hand and into the gut of an enemy, who promptly shrugs off 20 damage.

My Nord claimant quest isn't going so smoothly

You should train your Persuasion skill if you haven't.  Usually on my claimant quests, I can easily get over half the lords on my side.  Lords all have rivalries of their own and will be less likely to join up with you if you've already recruited someone they dislike, so it's best to grab the most valuable lords (meaning those who own towns or especially nice castles) first--that is, unless you're planning on giving yourself a new city or something.

Also, though it's a bit too late now, it's often a good idea to get on the good side of as many lords as possible before you take the claimant quests.  Run around delivering letters and bailing their asses out of fights, and they'll be more favorably inclined when you roll up asking them to join you in a rebellion.
