And about the 1 vs 1 issue, you're discarding it responding something about a situation which is NOT 1 vs 1 in the first place. In 1 vs 1 situations, duels happen all the time because that's technically what a 1 vs 1 situation is.
Ok it's an interesting idea, at least in terms of gameplay but I think that the credible aspect of the game that is meant to bring these considerations to the player's attention would be your troops' wages. Sadly these are currently set in a way that it is just about always better to upgrade your troops. If you simply didn't have enough money to do that then you'd be trying to optimize troop quantity vs troop quality.
I think it would be worth modding something like this in to see how it feels.
If I understand, higher tier units would be worth more points than lower tier units and you could only command a certain total number of points according to your party size ?
So that commanding one tough and experienced warrior would be harder or just as hard as commanding several clueless newbies ?
I'm starting to just dislike siege towers all together. Defending a siege against a siege tower is absurdly easy, you just drop down and do exactly like the soldiers you are describing here. Chop them down one after another...
but thing is, the ability to couch, AND maintain a couch after impact like I do sometimes should reflect my character, a merchant shouldn't have the imediate training to do either.
I believe it happens when couching a horse. That's how it works for me.
I suppose it's a bug, as I once couched the horses of a dozen swadian men-at-arms and knights who were standing in line in a single charge. I suppose that wasn't meant to be possible and hitting a horse with your couched lance should break your stance just as it does when hitting a human...
I don't see how couching is overpowered. 250 damage is nearly always useless- if you use a two-handed sword or axe on horseback you can kill infantry two or three times faster than with a lance.
That's if you are proficient with the two-handed sword or axe. The issue here is that with no skill at all with the lance you can still get one hit kills with couched damage quite easily (despite being unable to pull of any significant kind of damage with the normal stab)
Seriously most of you guys are saying that you should pull yourself down to get the difficulty up. Do you really feel it should be that way, that there SHOULD be no challenge when you aim at optimizing your power ?
I'm asking this independently of how good you think the OP is, and how good he thinks he is himself
