  1. Fixed Troop Tree Upgrades (Complete w/ Factions)

Ty for the fix, I just don't quite agree with it however.

I was going to make this myself but I just couldn't get around the fact that upgrading your unit can actually decrease their level.  It was my thought that maybe some of the troops were the ones you got from villages, and then there was perhaps some that were recruited by the recruiter when you owned your own town/fortress (Havn't played that far yet, just based on what I've read that there is a way to recruit like that).

I really wish that there was an official troop tree in the manual, or that someone with the russian version could confirm this is how they upgrade.
  2. Units don't level-up!

I managed to get my hands on a russian version (1.015.01) of the troops.txt

The problem is that the txt editor doesnt read it quite right, so it wont list the upgrade, or any unit stats.

The file size isnt even quite right...  it reads as 384 KB whereas ours is 723.

I wish I could find a troop tree diagram, and have been looking for E European webpages for any sort of wiki since they've had it longer, but no luck so far.

    Training your soldiers
If your character has developed the “Trainer” skill, then your hired troops
will become more experienced during battles and daily drills, and conse-
quently will improve their performance. You can choose to increase the
level of your fighters: if you do so, the higher-level troop will be more skil-
ful in assisting in victory over the enemy. However, there is greater cost in
maintaining higher-level units. As they gain experience, your soldiers will
pass through four stages: recruits, experienced, veterans, and elite.

Uh...  I hate to sound like an ass, but that isn't the slightest bit relevant to anything in this entire topic.

I'd like to also express my opinion that someone who is proficient using Troop Editor should post the "fixed" version of the text file..

Id do it myself if I had a troop tree to base it on.  For a lot its fairly straightforward, like the unit upgrades to veteran status, ect, but then a lot of the weird names throw me off.  And a few things not so straightforward - such as scythe wielder would upgrade to either pike militia or musket militia, but then would pike militia upgrade to pikeman, or pike militia veteran?
  5. Useful tips to players

Heres a tip I found with caravans:

Use the assess trade skill.  This shows places with high buying prices for that good.  But we all know that it lists goods that the town doesnt have for sale.  This doesnt matter for this though.

Since it seems that caravaners can only send what is in the goods marketplace, just keep one of an expensive item (ie velvet) in your inventory.  So sell it to the goods merchant, send the caravan to a place where it pays well, buy your one item back, then lead your caravan to victory.

A caravan of velvet from kamenents to vyborg is worth a LOT of money.

There is also a bug which you can take advantage of once - When you take a caravan of really expensive goods for the first time and get the quest for the trade permit at the end, you can get double profit that one time.
  6. Units don't level-up!

Would it be possible to obtain a troops.txt file from one of our eastern european brethren that are able to upgrade troops?

From what I understand of the filing system, this is the one that controls what upgrades to what, and looking at it, none of the troops have any upgraded forms set.  So I am figuring that if someone had a working one, it might be possible to replace ours and have it working again.  Or at the minimum figure out what upgrades to what, and change the upgrade path manually.

I would do this myself but it is a huge headache to try to figure it out since the game uses stuff like unit ID "trp_mercenary_swordsman" but the name is actually "Mercenary_Marksman" (swords = muskets?), and all the old factions (khergit, vaegir, ect) are still named in the unit ID's.
