The key is the tactics. Winged hussars with a superior tactical commander are deadly. The real Polish tactics for the winged hussars was charge, retreat, then charge again. The hussars were in stacks of around 40 (15+15, 2 chargers, and 4 per flank). The armor was the lightest type of heavy, the horses could carry a heavy load and were fast. Timing of the charge was exactly 30 seconds before contact. The front horses were armored at the height pikes would go, hence destroying the pike on contact.
