Yeah,  Like i said, they are in progress of porting it, but for now, it's only in beta.

Well first of all, yes the "become a king" feature is native to Warband.  The thing i like about Brytenwalda is a Giant new map,  the new tactic it take in battles.  The thing it lacks though, is the vast amount of items, compared to Floris, where there are TONS of awesome items.  This though is because Brytenwalda is based of an earlier time period and there wasn't as many weapons then.

Hmmm....i have played a lot of mods out there and here is my top 10 list of mods that I really likedNOT in oder of how much I liked them)
1.)Floris Mod Pack
2.)Brytenwalda
3.)Sword of Domocles(Vanilla M&B but being ported to Warband-Beta is out for Warband)
4.)Rigale
5.)Prophesy of Pendor
6.)TweakMB(Not a mod but is a very useful tool for people who don't know how to mod)
7.)Diplomacy
8.)New Elegante
9.)1257 AD
10.) Custom Commander

My top 3 mods are:
All Time favorite: BrytenWalda
2nd Fav: Diplomacy
3rd: Sword of Domocles

It works like in original M&B.
If you take a castle/town while not beholden to anyone, you are labeled a rebel of whatever kingdom you took the land from.
You can become a vassal of an existing kingdom, or support other possible claimants to the throne...and perhaps (? I haven't seen anyone confirm this) if you follow one of the kingdom-specific storylines, become the leader of an existing kingdom. But not so sure about the last one.

If "your own empire" means an empire/kingdom with you as its leader, with a name you choose for this empire, with vassal lords under you (aka, like in Warband) then no, you cannot.

So how does the games "kingdom" work?

I found that the less you have compared to the enemy bandits the more renown.  Comes in handy.

Also, try to help your faction if a siege occurs, usually the defenders are outnumbered, and if you win, you'll get a lot of renown.
