I guess we both have a point. You are correct about Byzantine being a Roman Empire, and I am correct about them calling themselves Roman because of the big influence and diplomatic power of them being Roman. I think it is a mix of both. They were Greeks yes. They used in the government Roman traditions, yes. But instead of calling themselves Greek Empire, they rather wanted to stay as the Roman Empire for the sake of being roman. It was probably easier to control other folks as the Roman Empire than a Greek Empire because of the already existing tolerance and acceptence to being ruled by romans instead of greeks.

Yeah i guess there is the importance of where you learned the history from. I used Greek sources and greek friends who studied there. They claim that the Byzantine Empire was totally Greek and that the Greeks took control from the Latins. I guess those sources were a little bit nationalistic. Can you send me your sources pv ?

Yeah I know that they called themselves Romans. The name Byzantine comes from a book. Even in the Ottoman Empire it is known that the Greeks kept calling themselves Romans as they accepted the Ottomans as the new Roman Empire. But for me, a name has no meaning. Byzantine was at the beginning a real roman state but after some point they became more Greek than Roman. They just kept calling themselves Roman Empire for the influence of being the Roman Empire. It might be that the Calradian Empire is calling itself the Calradian Empire just for the sake of being the Calradian Empire and not a random kingdom.

I don`t know if i can make clear what i mean. Let's say USA takes over Japan. At some point the USA collapses, but Japan keeps calling itself USA. The government might be American, but at some point it is going to be more japanese than american due to culture of the people. I hope i made my point clear.

So you are saying that the Empire is actually some kind of a copy of the true Calradian Empire ? I mean, the real Calradian people getting conquered by the Vlandians and Battanians and eastern cultures/nobles of the Empire just using the name and the traditions for influence of being the Calradian Empire ? That`s a good theory. We will find out soon hopefully.

Yeah about that, at some point Byzantine called itself Roman just for the influence of being Roman, but in reality Greece became the homeland. Just like Ottomans or Russians or Germans calling themselves Roman. Byzantine Empire was the Roman Empire I know that, but i wouldn't say they stayed that way. In my opinion, at some point there was no diffirence between them calling themselves Roman and Ottomans/Germans/Russians calling themselves Roman.
You might get Greeks offended by saying that Byzantine was 100% Roman and it stayed that way.

The Empire is very old which means they were pretty much succesful at what they were doing. It is hard to believe them leaving their homeland and heart to some foreigners. This, if it was their real homeland. The game would have a lore about Empire nonstop trying to get back their homeland from Vlandia. It would have been the main focus of the Empire. I can't believe that Roman Empire leaving Rome to some foreigners, and just trying to keep on expanding.
We don't have enough in game infos/books about the history of the Empire right now. Untill than, i am going to stand behind my theory. The Empire being a hungary monster, not having a cultural capital until they reached their peak, just keep pushing eastwards, leaving their first conquered lands to Vlandian protection and it ending up with vlandian revolt.

Yeah i know...still it's dumb. If you can't accept that the most of the electors want your opponent to be the leader, what is the point of the republic. It is about being humble for the sake of the country. Do not mistake it with ''None of this happened in the history etc etc.'' I was just making my comment about rebellions in a republic

In the game you can also hear they destroyed a lot of cultures and natives. And in the game, the word ''Natives'' used against the empire. It is part of the main story i believe. Which makes it clear that the Empire is not a native kingdom.

IIRC i heard it from a youtube channel that made a interview with the devs. It was turkish i believe. And i read about it on the reddit a lot. I am sorry that i can't give you any source right now. If i find any i'll send you a link but you can be sure that i am not pulling it out of my a**.

Nonetheless, i am staying behind my theory since we don't have any ingame books or enough info in the game right now.

Technicly speaking, yes the HRE was gone and the members were vassals of the Emperor. But it was still a Elective Monarchy, they just thought they have no other choice. Just like you said, they were locked.

I guess that's my bad. I was missinformed about the history of the Empire. But the Empress in the game claims that the heirs of the old Emperor should inherit the Empire. Which made me believe that there was a founder dynasty. Actualy, if there is no original dynasty it makes the lore very dumb. Why would you rebel if there is an elecetion system. It makes a lot of sense if there was a founder dynasty which was elected most of the time and some other nobles thinking that they are not capable of ruling anymore.

The dev blogs were clear what the inspiration for the Calradic Empire was -- Greece, Rome, and Byzantium. Well, as a person who grew up in Vienna, learned pretty much everything about the HRE, i believe i can say that the HRE was pretty much a Elective Monarchy. Austria stayed as the Emperor most of the time due to being the strongest member and tradition. The electors were always able to choose another emperor. Prussian-Austrian War happened because the Northern HRE wanted Prussia as the Emperor and the south supported Austria. So yes. HRE was most of the time Elective but chose the traditional country as the Emperor which makes it look like a normal Monarchy.

With gavelkind I am talking about the children of the Emperor inheriting the empire. It was just like HRE. Most of the time original dynasty members inhereted the Empire of Calradia. The civil war in the bannerlord happens because some nobles thought that the dynasty was unable to rule the empire anymore.

But the Empire is hundreds of years old and I am talking about those times not about the Bannerlord Era.
Bannerlord is the Era which the Empire fell. I thought we were talking about the origins.

Actually the Empire is like HRE. It was not a true monarchy, but it was common that the heir of the Emperor inheriting the Empire. Just like Austria. The civil war starts due to some generals and senators not accepting gavelkind succession.

I heard this for the first time in my life. From what I know, Capital is the city which is the country ruled from.
Considering that the developers are Turkish I am going give an example from Turkey. The most important city in the country is Istanbul but it is not the capital. Capital is the Ankara, which is the seat of the government. Capital is the Capital, no matter how strong the city is the heart of the country is where the country is ruled from. Which is the capital. Center of the Country.

Considering that the Empire was pretty old and waged war all over the continent, we might say that the Emperor changed his capital due to politics and wars. If you are in war with Vlandians, ist is not illogical to have your capital in the near. They didn't have internet or whatsapp, they had to send messangers to the commanders and it took a while for a messengar to arrive to warzone, which might end up with your army losing the battles/getting ambushed, being to harsh to the conquered people or being to passive. That's why it is important to be not far away from the warzone. I am saying this due to Calradian Emperors being mostly generals.

But i believe the OP is asking for a ''ethnical capital'' or the homeland of the Empire, which is beyond the sea. They came from the Sea thus, Vlandian lands are probably were their homeland and Praven the capital. They brought up Vlandians with themselves, waged war against the Natives of the continent and conquered inwards. In the meanwhile they moved their capital too and moved their armies to the east which means they left the western part of the country mostly unprotected, or only protected by the Vlandian Mercs. Vlandians rose up and took control of the Western part easily.

Empire is like Rome, but also not. The way they rule the armies etc etc are just like Rome. But the government is highly militaristic. They are spending their time mostly on military rather than ruling what they already have. probably all of the senetors were generals or ex generals. The seat of the government is actualy the headquarters of the army.

I believe it is the capital of the Western Empire. Somewhere i read that the Empire wasn't natives of the Calradia, they came from the sea just like vlandians. Considering this, I'd say it is the capital of the Western Empire.

I am excited about this. Pretty sure they are rushing daily patches because after making the game 100% stable and with less bugs they are going stop making daily patches which means we are going to get weekly or monthly "new content" patches.
