Well I've checked it out and it's certainly possible to create a ton of custom battlefields. I think I'd have 11 terrain types to work with (native generally only uses 2 - ground_earth and either ground1 or dry_grass). Even though 3d grass can't be implemented more extensively, the number of terrain types and the lightness option in the editor would allow for a nice variety, with thick grass, sparse grass, dark and light patches, dirt, mud, stones, as well as using textures appropriately, like the forest terrain under trees. Simple buildings, low walls, fences, streams bridges and roads could all be added. Last but not least, since the battlefields would be built by hand, they'd look better and be more suitable for battles. No more crazy hills etc. I'll get started on it once I've released this mod. There's probably have to be at least a dozen maps to start with, and I'd think we'd want at least 40 or so so it doesn't become too repetitive.
