With the last Beta version I had a problem with blacked out faces and other textures and had to set directx 7 instead of 9 to fix it.
When I purchased the finished game and downloaded from Taleworlds I uninstalled the beta Warband and selected to keep save files (in hopes I would not lose my character for multiplayer). Cleaned up my harddrive, defragmented, then installed the finished game. Then I was able to play using directx 9 again and I still had my character for multiplayer.
Many complaints I see of graphics problems are from ATI graphics processors and this has been discussed before in several threads. Nvidia graphics processors seem to be the least troublesome.
