    Crossbows vs. Drawn Bows?

    Horrux 说:
The only problem is, at 5 a pack, you run out way too quickly.  But being able to carry a maximum of 20 throwing axes is, IMO, quite realistic.

I'm not sure how much a throwing axe weighs but I doubt you could carry 20 of them. Especially as you need quite a bit of momentum to pierce the heavy armor found in the game.

    Crossbows vs. Drawn Bows?

I'd say crossbows are more of a sidearm whereas drawn bows are more of a weapon, if not your primary weapon.

    Crossbows vs. Drawn Bows?

I've found throwing weapons to be pretty useless honestly. Low ammo, low range and decent damage where I could just ride over and whack them. Companions make a mess of them too. Throw away their entire cache from 50m away and end up hitting nothing.

Where I will give them due credit (and it's really due) is with Huscarls. They will decimate an entire front row of oncoming infantry right before they break against the line.

    Question about companions!

    NJSQRL 说:
I intentionally lost to a drunk once just to see, it says something about the patrons picking you up off the floor and you barely surviving... I forget what exactly.

Must be pretty sober to crack down a player like that. IRL the worst he could do is puke on you.

    Crossbows vs. Drawn Bows?

I might try the bow on my next playthrough though. Getting slightly bored of this one, and I've played as one of the characters in the practice battles and the bow does shoot damn fast.

    Crossbows vs. Drawn Bows?

But you're firing more than twice as fast with a MW short bow, with the same damage. I think that makes it superior, despite the fact you need an additional 3 strength, and 5 points to invest in PD.

I see your point, but the truth is, when I started off my character, I got a crossbow. Just sort of.. stuck.

    Question about companions!

Okay thanks for clearing that up. Never wanted to risk it, that's why.

    Question about companions!

On the topic of permanency, what happens if you lose a battle with a bandit ambush (in a village or town) or with the belligerent drunk?

Ok thank you so much for answering all three of you

I'm gonna' trust you guys and stick with this savegame then

Very little in the game changes permanently. The only irreversible changes I know of are when a faction is destroyed, a lord leaves and when someone is married.

    Crossbows vs. Drawn Bows?

Personally I prefer crossbows to bows, for almost all situations. I aim for roughly 12-13 strength anyways, just to accommodate the massive 2h weapons I use.

Thanks to the latest patch (which now includes more light/hunting crossbow types) I can use the Masterwork Light Crossbow on horseback. With a decent crossbow skill I can reload on horseback (while moving) almost as fast as an amateur drawn bow, and aim with decent accuracy and penetration.

I don't need to work up to 30 strength just to max out my long range damage, I can spend those points on charisma or intelligence and field a large army. Also, the crossbow can store a single bolt for quick draw firing, not to mention that you can hold the shot for as long as you want.

During sieges the siege crossbow just sweeps the floor. Stand back with all my archers and wreak havoc on the walls. By the time I'm done (3-4 siege attempts) half the garrison is wiped out and there are no archers harassing me when I go over the walls.

Finally getting the hang of this...

Don't worry about that. It's a common bug I've seen numerous times. Doesn't affect gameplay, unless you see it in the fief giving menu.

As for the marriage feast, you have to attend any feast that is part of your faction. You should get a note about some lord.. blah blah.. inviting you to their august assembly. Your lady will be there and you get an option to marry her when you talk.

Siegers get stuck behind palisade and archer walls?

You could mess with the map, or you could just exercise great control over them. Have them hold position, follow you, or charge to get free of those spots.

Using the tactical map (backspace key) might also help.

    Crossbows vs. Drawn Bows?

They both have their uses, and their drawbacks (pun right there) but M&B does a fairly good job of balancing them out. Give us your opinion on which you prefer to use and why. I'll get the ball rolling with some pros and cons. Bows fast reloading can reload while moving less arrows per...

Always Great Helmet and thick heraldic armor with tabard. I'd use a great helm, but it gets in the way of my 3rd person sniping.

    Any of you...

On 20% (everything but battle size to minimum) I can win against maybe.. 30 guys max? Regardless of tier or class.

It's definitely possible to win a siege (defensive) on your own, as all you have to do is stand behind the crenelation and swing a poleaxe when someone climbs up the ladder.
