I play on a tough difficulty (normal dmg to self and allies, good AI, manual blocking, normal speed), and I haven't had trouble killing enemies.
Tis off topic, but yeeeah, assuming you've played ye old M&B, and you prefer to be mounted, you have to admit it's
harder.
Harder wouldn't bother me so much, but it's also less fun. :\
The way the collision boxes stop you from turning, and the fact that you no longer no-clip through your own ground groups, turns every horse battle into a traffic jammed cluster f**k, once the charge is on. There's just no way to direct Calvary to regroup after the first charge, so there goes most Calvary tactics.
And my favorite bit of this game, the most immersive bit, used to be dashing over the plains, with any polearm of my choosing, and seeking to sail through someone with my automagically couched lance. Now with the recharge time, and restricted lance array, I spend half my game running in circles waiting for the damn lance to recharge, while staring at a stupid icon in the corner of my screen. Immersion dead; fun dead. (Also wrist dead, as the only way around that, is to use other weapons and click on every bastard five times - bit of a bugger when there's hundreds of them.)
Ye also can't ride your charger over a full line of a hundred Nords non-stop anymore, at 30+ damage per trample (okay, maybe that
was a little overkill).
Still, I understand all of this is an effort to balance Multiplayer, because mounted units just DOMINATE ground troops, even as it is now, but under ye old M&B, it was at least 50x as bad for them.
Still, it'd be nice to have the *option* for ye old style balance in Single Player - maybe at cost of adjusting the difficulty%. For all the new options and fun Warband offers, ye old M&B had far better SP combat immersion for lancers, that being the only area where Warband took a major step backwards IMO.
