You can persuade companions not to leave you when they get upset, that could be new?

I take it back about "Shield + throwing weapon" - tried first person view with that combo? 

Shield + throwing weapon = cool! There's nothing more satisfying on foot than javellining a guy off a horse right before he lances you.

We have hold fire, but it could cooler. It'd be coolest if, instead of sheathing swords and having to reload crossbows before shooting again, they stood ready. An order of "Fire!" meaning an instantaneous volley from all your missile troops. That would rock!

Reviewers aren't used to this kind of game- reading the review, it seems that the reviewer has completely missed the point somehow :/ You just don't play M&B worrying about your "DPS" or the lack of one bow's ability to kill 50 odd enemies or whatever- it's a game of fun rather than of racking up points, which I imagine reviewers don't see too often and don't know how to handle.

Like Spore got panned! But Spore was a dissapointment, M&B has exceeded expectations, for me. And those expectations were high to begin with.

No edit face? 

It wouldn't be too unrealistic if Edit Face only allowed editing of hair/facial hair and making age go up (but never down!). It's cool starting as a bowl-cutted peasant, and growing into a bearded grizzled old man (in the course of a couple of months).

Looks nice though!

I think people are right that M&B wouldn't work as like, a conventional MMORPG. It would be... awful to say the least if we had thousands of people packed into towns and such. M&B is cool because it isn't conventional though- I know it's too much to ask for realistically, but MMO done in a new way that suits M&B would rock.

Maybe, since M&B has no linear storyline (and I don't think it will at release?) the storyline could be played through a series of battles online over a period of months- like every couple of weeks an RP description is posted up, for the next few days the battle could be fought by players- whichever side comes out with the most wins or whatever counts as winning the battle in the storyline- and the next storyline advancement and battle reflects that.

I hope I'm making sense A pipedream, but a sweet one

EDIT: Well, you could show on the map to yourself- but not too others until you're in a party of a certain size?

M&B would make the perfect MMORPG! It's avoided all the problems of  the level-grind, and level one chaps can go toe-to-toe pretty much with higher levels. An MMO without the dull level gap, the experience grind, the rock-paper-scissors business. I agree- it would rock! It'd be a (maybe the first?) MMORPG that's a game, not a job.

EDIT: Off topic, but the perfect MMORPG would be a zombie one without levels- know what I mean? Players trapped in some defensible safehouses (Events! Zombie break in, aargh!) while zombies roam the streets. Permanent death but not much in the way of gaining experience and levelling up. MMO's need to get players to stay because they're fun to play, rather than because "just a few hours more killing rats and I'll be level 43!"

You can do that- Camp -> Take an Action -> Recruit Prisoners. And enemies do that too.

There's plenty of historical evidence of female soldiers anyway- if the issue is making Mount and Blade confom to the rules of actual comparable societies, then not including women would be more unrealistic than doing so.

And this is even assuming that a fantasy world has to abide by the rules of our societies... Because it is socialisation, not something ingrained.

Because even though some aspects of calradia are fantasy, many aspects, such as the entire combat system, are purposely made to be as accurate as possible to medieval combat. The combat is NOT fantasy, it is very not fantasy, and as such the presence of women there presents a problem.

That's debatable I guess. I'm guessing "combat system" includes the combatants? Well, why do we have the options of unrealistic hair? Unrealistic facial types? Armour/weapon combinations? The unrealistic army structures?

The fighting seems realistic (to someone with no knowledge of medieval-style warfare, to be honest, but whatever) but the combatants and the cultures are decided by the history of this fictional world, which is how it should be I reckon.

This argument that Calradia is fantasy and hence we should become apologists for anything ahistorical or inaccurate that is found ingame doesnt carry water with me

Why should a fictional world be judged by our own history though? It's just as ahistorical that William the Conqueror hasn't invaded the British Isles as it is that the genders aren't quite as unequal as in our own history.

EDIT: and yes, I chose that example because it's just about the only thing I remember of history 

I don't see why it isn't realistic as it is- in that it realistically represents the world of Mount and Blade... I mean, you have I think Isabella of Suno talking about how it isn't illegal for women to rule, though things aren't equal. There's references everywhere in the game that indicate more equality than in medieval times but less than today, and the amounts of female soldiers and such I think represent that.

I mean, medieval stuff like religion is downplayed in the game (there's only really that "Thank God you came, sir!" stuff from a peasant that I can think of)- why shouldn't sexism? If someone made a mod set in Medieval Europe, then yeah- but it's not, it's Calradia.

EDIT: Sorry about the redundancy of this post! It seems this opinion has been posted before- and I agree with it!

A Mount and Boosh mod would rawk.

Anyway- has anyone mentioned siege defenses- where you have 0 health and keep fighting the siege without being able to leave or surrender or get captured or anything? It's like Bill Murray is leading the defense.
