Read all of the posts concerning breaking this down into divisions.
I think most would agree that players would prefer to have lets say 3-4 tournaments a year instead of 2. Right now tournaments are lasting too long.
To alleviate this as has been suggested, you divided the tournament into divisions. Now, I think like this, the best team(s) will likely come out on top. However, I don't think it should be divided on anything based on skill (at least at this point). Say you have 12 teams, you could have two divisions, 6 a piece . Its kind of like in baseball, those teams are stuck in their division, regardless of their skill.
While I think the original intention of most tournaments was good (that intention being let every team play every other team, which seems fair), it just takes too long.
The other thing that I think is quite important also is making the "championship" or final match, possibly even the "playoffs" more then one match. It always seemed a little unfair when two teams battled through this long and arduous bracket, and then 2 maps decided everything. I would suggest making the final
championship match a first to three or best of three match. You play your two maps on saturday, then the next and so on. I realize this takes more time, but as the round robin and other lower, often useless matches, may be eliminated due to the introduction of divisions, this would allow the extension of a sort of
championship "series"...... also I think it would excite the community if the finals was streamed and wasn't just one match. I guess that is why the world series in baseball is best of 7, its more fair, and more exciting
