    Warband - Companion Fighting

The next version of TweakMB (out sometime this weekend) will allow you to completely block companion complaints, and will also allow you to prevent them from even trying to leave.  These tweaks will be savegame-compatible, will work with every TweakMB-supported mod, and will work more thoroughly than the standard "disable companion interaction" tweak.

I'm also someone who enjoys having lots of companions.  I don't find that it makes much of a difference when you have an army well into the hundreds, although it does potentially make a difference in regards to party skills.  Mostly I just find it more fun that way .

I'm sure if you played Dragon Age: Origins, the idle chatter between Morrigan and Alistair would drive you up the ***** wall.

But hey, you know what? That means there's more to the characters than equipment slots and party skills. Whoever said it doesn't add depth doesn't know **** from Shinola.

If the "depth" was well-written and consisted of more than six paragraphs total, sure, I'd agree.  As it is, each of the companions has what equates to a profile on a bad internet dating site.

    Depth.  Psh.

    Intelligence XP Bonus

    Ogrecorps 说:
My personal view is that the intelligence-based xp boost in the end allows a player to enjoy a higher level character longer and therefore not a problem. What I DO see as an issue, however, is the number of weapon points I am ending up with lately: nearly 900 accrued between my last level and current. I don't have the agility to have the weapon mastery to assign them where I would prefer them so they kinda get stuck wherever, making me all but unstoppable in tournaments. That is a bit much I think. Even at level 39 on day 397 (I advanced to that about a week ago in-game) I still have to choose between the base attributes in order to get things the way I want but have no such problem any more with proficiencies where I am, unfortunately I believe, a jack of all trades. Below are my stats:

Edit: the first thing I did was push my INT to 15 where it has served me quite well since.

Yep, I have no issue with the XP, regardless of build.  There is still a wall you hit where you just don't level anymore, and garnering an extra few levels to put you a little closer to the other kings of calradia is incentive to keep going.

The weapon points are ridiculous though.  I end up with a thousand just sitting there unspent, rofl.

    Best Armour?

Methinks sugarloaf helms have more armor but I might be wrong. If they do they only have 1 more. Everything else you listed is top quality.

How does horse archers work in sieges? Im talking about attacking now.

How do you mean the question?

They act like regular archers on foot, generally - if you are talking about behavior.

They perform adequately, if you are talking about performance.

    Women have it easy

Aside from the original topic, the first thing I do after basic leveling and gear shopping is to train troops up and give them to each king over and over until relation reaches 100.  It doesn't take all that much time as long as you give moderate to high quality troops in large numbers - I definitely think there is an issue with the give troops function, but honestly it is also something one can just avoid doing if it impacts the fun of the game.

    Ranged weapons. Worth investing?

Some people are of the mind that under certain battle (not character build) circumstances, x-bows are better.  I disagree.

As you say, assume a character with PD of 8+ and a bow proficiency of 350.  Assume this character also has a crossbow proficiency of 350 and that said character has access to the bow of their choice and the crossbow of their choice, along with the best ammo for each.

Under what circumstance would said character choose to bring the crossbow versus the bow into battle?  I say none, if they are informed, reasonable, and logically.

Others believe that sieges or prolonged battles favor the x-bow.  I think that belief is founded on flawed reasoning.

And you would be correct sir.

    Regenerate Health

I'll direct you to my above comments about "fooling yourself into thinking you -aren't- cheating".
  9. Fattyfat

    Regenerate Health

If you are so worried about "instantly" getting healthier with the cheat, then do what you would do if there was a regenerating system implemented... go sit in a corner for whatever preordained amount of time you feel is necessary and THEN hit the cheat.  It will work the same, since the entire premise is "not in combat".

    SkyTime 说:
E: And i cant see how is the 'halo****' related to the request im supporting here.

Halo has an integrated "regeneration" system similar to the one you are suggesting.  What wasn't clear about that when I said it before?

    Regenerate Health

I don't see it as useless, it has served many other games well (albeit very different games that share little else in common with this one).  A little silly, certainly.  My problem is that there are already workarounds for the implied "issues" that are proven to work.  If you need someone to fiddle with a module, txt files and such and label it a "feature" that you can download to fool yourself into believing it is different from "cheating" then I think you need to reevaluate.  I fully support cheating of any nature that makes the game more fun for the person playing the game - it is a single player game after all, tweak and cheat to your heart's content, it won't hurt anyone else.  Taking valuable time away from adding features that /don't/ already have workarounds is unacceptable, on the other hand.

I apologize if my text has been "snide" - conversation often does not translate well in a text based environment.

    Welcome to the intranetz.

This kind of thing should be optional, as some find it usefull and some dont. If it gets added ofcourse, and this is still a suggestion, and suggestions are often to be made better so why not give your own opinions about this instead of spamming the thread with some Halo ****?

Note that the said "halo ****" is exactly what you are asking to implement, therefore holds at least some kind of relevance, just as references to call of duty and other similar styled games.

Also note that I did indeed give my own opinions.  Wear some armor and turn the difficulty down.

    If it ain't broke...
Well, that's just the thing: some people do feel like it's broken.

In what manner is the current health system broken?  The game is already easy enough.  If you are getting killed too fast, reduce the damage in the settings and wear some armor. you'll live forever.  That not only solves the problem but is a hell of a lot simpler than adding arcade-style health kits and regeneration, particularly when the time spent could be used on any of the hundred other suggestions in the /appropriate/ suggestion thread in the stickies.

    SkyTime 说:
I wouldnt call it a cheat, rather realism, some kind of. I mean, if id have free time in battle, id take the time to heal some minor wounds

And if you had free time in battle, tell me exactly how you would "heal" your minor wounds, in this hypothetical "realist" situation?

    SoTAL 说:
I just feel like there should be some way of regenerating health when you're out of combat, if you get unlucky and lose health early on in a siege for example you're kinda ****ed. Shouldn't be overpowered or anything, just so that you don't have to be super-careful for the rest of the battle if you get hit by a javelin or something at start.

See above damage setting and armor wearing comment.

    Smarmellows 说:
If the player could heal over time, they'd have an incentive to actually try to fight in those muckier situations. If the worst happened and they managed to survive it, they wouldn't be doomed for the rest of the battle and be forced to sit back and watch. Though obviously the danger of this is it will feel like a cheat to some, making the game too easy, you'd have to be very careful in balancing it, and it would have to be optional. Still, not a bad idea, but if it came down to it between this and a new feature from Caba, then I'd take the new feature. Disregarding the argument that this itself is a new feature, and what is and is not a cheat. (Bodyguards to an ambush? cheat )

If you need incentive to get into "muckier" situations, see above comment about lowering damage settings and wearing armor.  I'll even add the suggestion to wear a shield, I know, crazy right?

    Ranged weapons. Worth investing?

I wouldn't say debatable early on - the X-bow is better with comparable investment in both weapons when the investment equals zero, I don't think there is any question about it.

Of course everything is situational, and I'd rather stay away from circular logic.

Given a character that is fully invested in STR and AGI (all skill points free, strength and agility skills maximum of 8/:cool: and minimally in INT and CHA, what weapon would you choose, a bow or x-bow?

Given a character that is moderately invested in all attributes (all skill points free, strength and agility skills maximum of 5/5) what weapon would you choose, a bow or x-bow?

Given a character that is minimally invested in STR and AGI (all skill points free, strength and agility skills maximum of 2/2) and fully invested in INT and CHA, what weapon would you choose, a bow or x-bow?
  14. Fattyfat

    Ranged weapons. Worth investing?

I don't get the argument I guess.  Taking any historical representation out of the question and only using the game's mechanics -

X-Bows offer low-investment ranged solutions that deliver adequate results.

Bows offer high-investment ranged solutions that deliver poor to outstanding results based upon investment level.

Both have been stated in increasingly long blocks of text repeatedly.  Both are true.  What's the big deal?

Bows are better, period, because the POTENTIAL for outstanding results exists where the same potential does not for X-bows.
