  1. How do you become a king in warband?

I know this has been asked a few times but I want to clarify: to become a king you must either be non-aligned or renounce your fealty to a faction? So if you're already a vassal, it isn't too late to go independent? Providing your right-to-rule is at least 50 so to act as a deterrence against all factions that will attack you on sight? Yes I know this question is for Warband and it's in the wrong thread but I've only just started playing M&B vanilla and I'd like to do quite well in that game before I move on to Warband.
  2. Looking for a good tutorial

Yeah I've made sure not to get into debt. I've only failed to pay the troops in full a few times. Whenever I'm low on cash, I just enter myself into a few arena bouts. Which are actually quite fun. One annoying thing though, if you spawn as an archer you can't melee. Even though the A.I archers can melee? I've read that in tournaments, archers carry daggers. Am I missing something?

I didn't answer your earlier question, my character is definitely a lord. In fact, I just swore fealty to King Graveth of Rhodok and I've been given the hamlet of Jamiche as my fief. I see there's an interesting 'village management' screen to build up the infrastructure of the village. However, there's no option to collect taxes. Do I need to build up the town before being able to collect taxes?

Going back to the monetary side of things. I'm still not making a great deal of money. As a lord character, what's the most efficient way of making money quickly? Are there static trade routes? (I.e. Y town will sell X good the cheapest and Z town will pay the most).

    Thanks.

P.S. I won my first tournament last night. I didn't bet any money on myself and so I only made 200 denars - a bit of a fail.

Thanks guys. It's funny, after reading your advice here and looking around more. I decided to change 'tac' as it were. I've kept my party small and cavalry only. At the moment I've got about four heroes with me. I've managed to outrun the bandits I couldn't handle and I've made a bit of money by doing the odd quest and entering into arenas and won a few of them. I tried entering into a tournament and I was shafted from the beginning as I was a horseback archer. Needless to say I didn't survive for long . The only thing I've yet to overcome is the monetary side of things. Now I've gone up to about 4000 denars which is peanuts I know. But I've spent most of the money on buying new kit and recruits and my finances seem to peter out. Should I just save some cash up, say from arena bouts. Then buy some goods and get a good return on them elsewhere and build up my wealth like that?

I realised early on that one error I made was to align myself to a faction. I've joined pretty much with the Rhodoks. I haven't been made a vassal lord yet (of course!) but I entered into contract with them to be a mercenary and my standing with the Swadians has gone into the negative because of it. So of course I imagine some trading routes are off-limits to me, unless I'm willing to sneak into a town.

However, I'm not going tor restart because that takes away a certain challenge for me. I want to be able to thrive and prosper with my character. Despite the initial setbacks! Any advice on what to do next?

Hello, New player obviously. I've tallied about 7 hours worth of play in Mount & Blade and I still haven't made much progress. I had a fair bit of money during my first few hours, but I've lost a lot on buying men and then losing them in battles. I've also been captured quite a few times and I...
