I disagree, they seem to work just fine and effectively judging from what i saw in E3 2017 Horse Archer Sergeant Gameplay (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMeqj8WG0a

There is nothing wrong for adding scimitar/curved sword for aserai, since they have The ghilman faction. In real life Ghilman/ghulam were Band of slave soldiers comprised out of turkic war prisoner (though sometime voluntary as well which varied from personal to a chief pledging his entire tribe for service). So the curved sword probably came from them. That also a possiblity of aserai having horse archer through them (like irl) but that would be too OP.
