I don't suppose there are any mirrors or torrents for the patch? My connection should be capable of pulling down half a gig in less than the five hours it's telling me it takes, and I just lost the download about haflway through. Is there a less busy place I could get it from?

Might I suggest giving lances a bonus against shields? It fits in with a lot of literary references to shattering shields, and doesn't really make the lances that much better.

Perhaps ranged weapons should be more powerful, but deal cut, not pierce damage-- armor is still very useful against ranged weapons, but you'll have fewer peasants running around with 5 arrows in them.

You know, this game would be pretty neat with multiplayer. When's multiplayer coming out? I think my enjoyment of this game would be enhanced with some online multiplayer. I don't know much about programming but I don't think adding multiplayer should be that hard! Just a small suggestion, have the devs considered adding multiplayer?

On the other hand, I don't recall many new items, so wouldn't you be able to simply port over the Native RCM once it comes out?

When I suggested the Poles, I was thinking of the novel The Teutonic Knights, by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The Teutonic Knights are demonized like nothing else and it's soaked through and through with projected Polish nationalism, but it's a very good story. I know the Poles wouldn't make sense geographically or even temporally in the context of Livonia, but thematically I think they would fit right in.

Alternatively, could you simply port the Knight and Man-at-arms mercenaries right into the Rhodok troop tree, a la the later Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth? The only other time we see these troops is in tournaments or under the player's command.

Finally, is there any reason a particular coat of arms should be restricted to one faction? I know there were trends in different countries, but azure, a bend or is the same no matter where you are.

How coherent can it be if it has leather anus belts inhibiting horse ****ting?

One critique I've heard of it is that since M&B doesn't have a system that stimulates getting swarmed by a bunch of unwashed peasants and held on the ground as someone works a knife through your visor, heavy armor is more effective than it "should" be.

If you want to "put it more in line with reality", you'd have to raise the horses price even more to compensate with this. And *drastcally* raise the wages afterwards.

As of now,  wages/horses and horses/equipment prices ratios are already  both *heavily* inbalanced in favour of the seconds  compared to what it was in reality...

Yeah yeah yeah

Basically, armor and weapons are way more effective, but also way more expensive, which supposedly puts it more in line with reality. You are a god of death once you get high-quality armor and weapons, but it takes you forever to get there. Combat is faster and bloodier, elite troops are scarier, and all in all it can make for a nice change of pace if you don't mind an even more hellish early game.

Note that lances do not have handguards. However, you are right in saying that there are two-handed swords being used from horseback (or at least swords being used in two hands), as well as two-handed axes the wonderful shortened military scythe.

Off topic, you might want to write to Professor Urban at [email protected] with some praise/feedback/whatever. He really is a wonderful scholar (most of the time) and he just seems so sad that so few people care about the Northern Crusades


Spanky-- I really like the look of the mod. The Order looks like it's straight out of the Morgan Bible. Very nice work. I do wish that there were another Western European-style faction with the bright colors of both the Bible and secular knights (Poland, maybe?).
