I'm also having this issue. My relationship with the ruling clan was somehow at -59, despite me fighting multiple battles in their armies. I just noticed when I rescued an allied party from some looters, after thanking me for saving their life, my relations with their clan dropped from 1 to -19 immediately. Any attempts to increase relations(such as fighting alongside them, clearing hideouts in their territories, and supporting them with influence on the clan screen) either do not increase relations, or decrease them.
