Skirmish balance is the worst it's ever been, I mean it. The way various classes approach each other in fights feels inconsistent as hell and makes for a new ****show every single match I play.

While weapon speed was a nice advantage in 1.4.3, it feels absolutely critical in infantry fights now. If your weapon is significantly slower than your opponent's, he will just be able to double hit you on every turn, effectively outspamming you in the long run.

The general slow movement speed is not the problem as I see it. It's the penalty for carrying shields. I now have to be scared of archers with 2H, as their weapon is not only likely to be faster than mine, they can also pull s key shenanigans on me because they are faster without a shield. Then there's the shock infantry which is even worse. They will spamlock you and then s key when you need to outfeint them. I feel like I'm getting toyed with by players who are worse than me skill wise and it's driving me nuts.

Cavarly is in a really strange spot. We feel like it's better to just ditch the lance completely and go for the fastest spear every time. Thrust speeds are now so pathetic for lances, it's not even worth bothering with them.
Some weapon speeds feel grossly inconsistent at the moment, I would agree specific faster weapons have a clear advantage. Try out the Legionare axe vs. mace next time to see what I mean. Why would you ever pick the mace?

I stand by my statement that the primary thing making double swings possible is just having great footwork, and that the main reason people are having double swings done to them is that they have poor footwork. With that said, I have like 5000 hours in Warband Competitive, so my definition of good and bad footwork will obviously be quite different to someone whos main Mount&Blade experience is the Swing-Block-Kick-Swing-Block-Kick of Bannerlord for the last 6 months. It isnt fair to expect most people to share knowledge of footwork and how to use it to the same extent.

One thing that I can confidently say is that speeding up onehanders is not the answer to stopping people from doublehitting you. All this would accomplish is making the threshold to counter attack much smaller and would make it even easier to chain attacks. This was explored thoroughly in warband during the fastest vs medium combat debates right before WPL1.

I agree that twohanders are very fast right now. They are able to double swing without the same amount of correct footwork. I also agree that weapon switching is much too slow right now, especially for people trying to use spears. Also crush through is very bad.
Proper footwork can certainly net you extra hits here or there, but as I understand it, movement speed during combat has also been decreased this patch. In my experience, it makes for slower and more predictable combat.

In order to be aggressive with one handed weapons, players will need to actually swing now and chain hits with good footwork rather than just feint as quickly as possible. I view this as a good change for infantry.

Coupled with shield HP being lowered, infantry being encouraged to actually attack rather than spend most of the fight fake attacking should see an increase in aggression from Infantry and the kite/kick/turtle meta becoming much less effective.
Like Octavius said, this boils down to right swing spam until someone's shield breaks, or a third person enters the fight. There is less skill expression with a slower combat system, in my opinion.

The ideas behind patch 1.5 are sound, problems that lingered in multiplayer have somewhat been addressed. Thrown weapons aren't instantly accurate, ranged classes have to aim more carefully, shields feel feasibly destructible, etc. I'm not quite sure why one handed weapon swing speeds were...
