  1. Up for air

*GASP!* Hey again, everyone.  Here I am again with an update and few more questions. I am now level 25, with a 73 man army, 800-ish renown, 55-ish honor and about 45k space-bucks.  I am on a quest, having made peace and then war again with the Kergit, to wipe them off the map as a vassal of...
  2. Quick question about being a merc.

Yes, the negative opinion will stick.  So far the only way I have found to increase your standing with another faction you're not aligned with is to free their lords from captivity via combat and then let them go free.  Given that your alignment with the Nords will put you at -30 or less with the V's when they go to war, it could take a while, especially since you have to free them from another faction both the Nords and V's are at war with.  This can work pretty well for you since it also gives you huge increases in relationship points with the lords you're freeing which will come much in handy later.

The other way to restore your 0-balance with the faction is to take up the peace quest from a Nord guild master, in which case everything goes back to 0.
  3. New guy, modest aspirations...(for now), few questions

Thanks again everyone!  Since you all have advised me, I've advanced to level 18 and am now receiving vassal...age... requests from the Vaegirs (sp? whatever.) and the Swadians.  If I had to choose one I would go with the Vaegirs, since I'm well up the king's you-know-what and the Swadians are at war with the Rhodoks, whom I would rather leave alone, since having been a merc for the Vaegirs (no longer, BTW) the remaining two factions already hate me, being at war with them.

SO, having nearly achieved my aforementioned goals, I will soon be setting out to conquer the Khans.  All thanks to everyone here's sage advice!

Now I wonder which approach to use in doing so.  Do I become a vassal of Vaegir, at war with the Khans, whom with several of the nobility (including the king and current marshal) I have high standing, or join the claimant in the land where almost all the nobility hates me?  I should mention that my eventual goal is to possess that castle in Rhodok on the lake, the name of which again evades me.  Here are my sub-questions:

    1) When you complete a claimants quest, do your standings with the cliamant's faction and those that favor you but are at war with theirs, reverse, or do you maintain your standing with factions that currently favor you but are at war with your claimant?  Or does your standing with the claimant's faction not change at all?
    2) I assume that once two factions border each other, they will inevitably go to war, therefore in either case once the Khan's are subdued I will be aligned with a faction at war with the Rhodoks.  The Khan's already are, thus will be with the claimant enthroned, yes?  Will it be so if I go the Vaegir route?

As I think more about this, I think my best option is to become a vassal of Vaegir to conquer the Khan's, then persue the Rhodok claimant.  (

    3) Can I even do that?)

Keep in mind that for some reason, my character really likes the Rhodok-ians, and doesn't want to offend them, thus wants to keep that part of the map blue so far as it is up to him.

For all that digression, all I need to worry about in the near-term is how best to take out the Khan's in a way that eliminates hostility toward me, and leads to the eventual taking of that castle I can't name.

    Thanks again

  4. Editing the Wiki

Yes, I meant in game....looking around the game files yielded absolutely nothing...
  5. database of oppinions, lords honour

I've made a mod request along these lines at MBX.  If you like the idea, please let them know!  I also included a Wiki mod and trade-route generator according to this post, so also throw your support behind that if you like.
  6. Trading in Calradia - a Merchants Guide to Profit, Listed by Commodity & Region

Just FYI - I have mentioned your guide here, and am going to submit a mod request that includes it as well.  Back with a link.

    Here it is: mbx request

Oh and BTW:  Yeah, this needs to be stickeyed!
  7. Editing the Wiki

Can it be done?  I have some ideas I'd like to impliment (sp?) into it, like adding a trade goods section using the trade guide, and if I feel brave enough, adding this as well.  If anyone has any help to offer, please share!
  8. New guy, modest aspirations...(for now), few questions

Good tips.  I assume you get exp. in tourney combat as well, no?

So here's my plan for now.  Trade/Quest/Compete until I get comfortable and have a 50 man army and at least 2 more companions (3 total), while building rep wherever I can.  (I just became a Vaegir merc, so my favor with Nords just went down the pooper.  Didn't expect that :???:)  Once I get there, I'll find the Khergit claimant and join his cause.  Those people apparantly didn't like me from the start for some reason, so they go first.  I'm sure they'll end up at war with the Rhodoks, and once that happens it's time to go get my little piece of lakeside property.  (Don't remember it's name, but it's the one nestled between a lake to the South and hill to the North, just West of what I think is the capital; Jelkala, right?)  Not sure what to do after that, but figure it's a pretty nice start.  I suppose I don't have to go the claimant route, since it appears I'm becoming an Vaegir tool and they're at war with the Khergit.  I guess there are more questions there:

What happens if I join a cliamant while in service to the king of a warring faction?
Do native troops go away if their lands are conquered by another faction and stay if by a claimant?
Now that the Nords and Khergit hate me, is it safe to travel there or will I get crushed by the nobles 100+ man armies?  If it is safe, will my trade be affected there?
When it comes time to seige, will I need to re-construct my forces?  Right now I'm at about 50% cavalry, 15% archers and 35% infantry, and I'm sure most if not all of those infantry will upgrade to cavalry, since my cavalry came from those same infantry types.  (I know I can have the cavalry dismount, but I have yet to delve into the combat commands.  Guess I should, huh?)  I have yet to see an upgrade tree; does one exist?  I've seen all over the place here where to get what type of troops; it'd be great to see it in a graphic representation since I don't really have a grasp on geography yet.

One more thing.  I am getting hardly any XP now that I have a force that apparently threatens every type of raider/looter/etc in the kingdom, but know there's no way I could take on a real military force.  Last time I was near the coast I saw no sea raiders at all, but according to the hierarchy of bandits, they may be my last hope at a reasonable challenge.  Everyone else gets wasted by my troops before I get any real action, and that only after a considerable chase since they all run.  How can I get combat XP in this situation?  Tournaments seem so few and far between that they won't do the trick.  Should I disband some of my troops until I need to build my forces for seige?

OK, one more "one more thing".  I purchased some cattle and drove them to a city.  How do I sell them?  (Really need to use that "cattle will follow" mod...)
  9. New guy, modest aspirations...(for now), few questions

I've only participated in one tourney, got knocked out the first round but meritoriously advanced to the second when I got slaughtered.  Any advice on when to venture again?  I'm only level 7 now.
  10. New guy, modest aspirations...(for now), few questions

Another question:  Do you have to win tournaments to make money, or can you get some payoff just by advancing a round or two?  The thought of having to win makes me kinda nervous due to my unease fighting with anything but a steed & spear.  heh...Mount & Blade...Steed & Spear...
  11. database of oppinions, lords honour

I've been thinking about this as well and was considering submitting a mod request for an informational addition to the forementioned "wiki" game pages to cover it.  It'd be great to see a visual real-time representation of the kingdoms tree-graphed with the kingdom name, capital city and king as the header, the lords and their holdings underneath.  This would also be an easy way to see all of the kings and lords activities and locations (i.e. imprisoned by [noble @ location], at war with [noble @ location], beseiged by [noble @ location], who they are hosting (claimants included, perhaps heroes in city?) or visiting [@ location], etc.) which all seem to be common knowledge anyways and are reported in the ticker thingie or easily found out.  It'd be great if it could include thier renown, honor and disposition towards you, as well as that of the villages.  It may be a lot of info for a page, so it could be indexed by kingdom.

I'd do it myself if I had any clue how to, or the time to learn, but I have niether.  Most of the info is already in the wiki, just not well organized visually, and I assume that would make it easy...?

    What you think?
  12. New player questions!

I did see in the mod lists one that changes the amount you can sell for based on prisoner level...
  13. New guy, modest aspirations...(for now), few questions

Thanks, guys!  You've all helped a lot.  I wish I had more time to play so I could let you know how it goes sooner, but it'll be a while.
  14. New guy, modest aspirations...(for now), few questions

Thanks Berpol; very helpful.  BTW, by follow tip #5, I meant the "build up your army" part, then go take the flippin' thing.

Couple follow-ups: By "other lords", I assume you mean of the kingdom you are trying to conquer...?  What happens if I take a city/castle without having any alliance to king or claimant?  Is stealing cattle accomplished by "forc[ing a] town to give you supplies"?

The lack of quick reply kinda sucks, no?

  15. New guy, modest aspirations...(for now), few questions

For a new guy wondering how to get started on my quest for a castle, this has been the most helpful post I've seen in two days of reading this forum.  The bolded items are of particular use to me.  Thanks, Tahadar! I still have a couple questions, though.  As I said, I'm a newbie (just...
