Max Army Size and Morale - Easy to change in scripts.txt

Well, there's seven guys that are going to get bored with this game soon after editing all the challenge out of it.

    Help with point distribution please?

Before you read my stats just know I want to amass HUGE armies and conquer castles, major and minor cities, etc.  My character is an effective warrior (so far, but I haven't done any big army fights, just small skirmishes vs the outcasts of the land).   What do I need? I was thinking of working towards Leadership 5.  Maybe shields 5 for siege battles.  But i'm not sure what else I would ABSOLUTELY need for sieges and/or HUGE battles.

    Company: 9/89  (9 heroes)
    Level 26
That is all you need for Castles and Towns. The only thing stopping you from taking Castles and Towns right now is you.
For HUGE armies you need to download and run BattlesizeChanger, and join a faction and attack multiple Lord armies.  If 89 vs multiple Lord armies that can number 200 or more per each party isn't enough for you need to find something else to play.

Nothing wrong with the following character if you're mostly couched lancing enemy from horseback although some surgery and first aid would help your huge army survive better.

    What does Tactics do?

    Deathlordjaffar 说:
    I've got a related question:
Does the battle size setting affect the number of total troops allowed on the field, or just how many you can field yourself?
I believe it's total number of troops, which is probably why it's called Battlesize changer rather than Partysize changer.
If the latter,  do allied units count towards your limit?
Allmost certainly. Haven't you been in Bandit fights in villages with virtually none of your own troops because your party is flooded with villagers?
I have. I've also had plenty of battles with large allied Lord parties or multiple allied Lord parties wherein only a handfull of my guys have been present at each stage of the battle.
Also, let's say you're helping a friendly lord with higher tactics than you. Will his rating affect you too?
    Thanks
Yes, I think. It ought to atleast as all your Companions Tactics levels are added and it certainly works like that for multiple enemy Lord parties such as when you're sieging a castle with multiple Lord parties in it, even when you've beaten them down to small party sizes and reduced the garrison strength such that they barely outnumber your total force you still see a reduced number of your troops spawn at the start of the assault.

    kidnapped girl .950

I went with option 2 in .951 also after not paying and defeating the Bandits and she also wont recognise that she's home or leave me. Crap, now I have to figure out some way to edit her out of my save game, or, loose a battle and all my companions and troops and hopefully her too.

Seems it's still bugged in .951
  5. Badbru

    Where are they ?

    @ Cracka,

Mate, I don't think they all spawn at one time. I've spent a similar time period looking for Matheld and only found the same three or four other Companions that I didn't want. In the end I hired Klethi and Katrin knowing full well they wouldn't get along with the rest of my party. Once they had their first grumbles I kicked them loose and guess what? The very next Companion I find is Matheld and the one after that I find, or I should say re-find, is Bahestur who I lost on day two or something, so long ago that I'd forgotten he'd ever been a member of the team. So, try that. Hire one you don't want and kick them loose when they argue. It may reset the spawn list for you.

Kings and their cattle on campaign

You can stack them from different villages if you manage to "Bring the herd to a stop" close enough to the new town you're buying from. By near enough though I mean allmost on top of. The village Elder will add what you buy to your existing herd. I think raiding for cattle works the same too.

However I agree, it's usually an absurd amount of cattle to get considering how available cattle usually are, and five times the amount of time allocated probably still wouldn't be enough unless you lucked onto one of those exceedingly rare towns that has 100 head of cattle.

Locations Information and Random weapon stats.

First off, yes I did search and no I didn't find anything similar. Suggestion one. Add -your relationship with village number- to the information on villages and towns in the "Locations" information section. (Please) I was playing .950 last night and my village was raided and looted by a Lord...

    Inventory Management: Bug or what?

    Siege Crossbows perhaps.
I often play a crossbow weilder and often give them to my Companions but if you're mounted then the best you can use on horseback is a Light crossbow. You are however never mounted at a siege thus prior to battle swap out the lights amongst the party for siege crossbows.

Similar concept, maybe you prefer your Companions to have some type of sword and shield for regular mounted combats but like the extra reach of a polearm of some type for that top of the ramp bottle neck. If your Companions don't usually carry them you might want to issue some prior to a siege.
  9. Badbru

    what do you do when...?

    Tab out, seige again.
The location of the defenders will be reset.

What? I didn't understand, you'll have to be a bit slower with me :>  The Khan is AWOL, gone.. what can I do to get out of the vassalage?
You may not need to go and actually talk to the Khan to "Renounce your oath"

Have you ever successfully seiged a Castle?

Upon success a screen pops up with the options
    a) Ask your Leige for the Castle to be given to you

    or

    b) Ask for nothing.

If you choose option a) and your Leige (In your case Sanjar Khan) sends a message back (again in the form of a popup screen)
"We were pleased to hear of your actions conquering -insert castle name here-  and note that you ask for it to be granted to you blah blah...
I cannot give the castle to you blah blah blah..."

You then get two more options,
    a) Accept your Leiges' decission

or (here's the bit you need to pay attention to)

    b) Renounce your oath.

Both of these are popup screens that do not require you to be anywhere near the ruler of your faction thus it shouldn't matter if he's missing or not, the game engine generates those screens after you take a castle.

So how does this help you?
In my game castles are changing hands all the time. On two occasions the successfull attacker has moved on immediately and left the castle vacant long enough for me to walk in unopposed. If you can't find a situation like that in your game, take one by force. The first re-garrison force in my game has usually been around 25 troops, which shouldn't be too difficult to dislodge from a Castle.
However you manage to get hold of the Castle choose option a) Ask for the Castle to be granted to you.
In the unlikely event you get it then that's great as you now have a Castle. In the more likely event he rejects your request, you should choose option b) and reject his decission and "Renounce your oath".
And come to think of it, WHY would the alternative-khan refuse me? It doesn't make any sense. I mean, ALL other khergit lords are vassals of the king. what, he wants to just go alone?   I would have thought he'd accept any khergit lord.
It was a bad idea, I think, to have him reject you for your vassalage. it doesn't make sense.
Any of three things might be happening here.
One, it's .950, it might be broken, (-rant- so much else is)
Two, You don't have enough Renown,
    which ties into
Three, You misrepresented your current situation and you're a Mercenary for the Khergits rather than a sworn in Vassal because you still don't have the renown. Mercenary contracts seem to also be broken from various other threads I've read.
Required Renown to join a Faction used to be 160 minus five times your relationship number with the Faction Ruler.
Claimants may run under this formulae or they may have devised another. Your relationship with the Claimant is probably 0. What's your Renown?

How to Succeed in Merc Service?

I skipped Mercenary service, truth be told I didn't find out it was even an option until after I'd joined a faction.

I've been mostly ignoring Lord requests to go on war tours but I've gone most of the times my King has requested me.

I have lost standing with the Lords I've refused, but unless there's been some significant change to the importance of relations with mere Lords that I've not encountered yet, who cares?

In previous versions, and as far as I can tell so far in this version, your relationship to your King is the only relationship you need really bother with.

Sometimes the war tours are a tedious drag and an immense waste of time, yet at other times they have been really fun for me.
  12. Badbru

    starting off in .950

For a horsed archer my tip would be to stay solo and run from everything except "Looters" parties. These are equivelent to the old River Pirates and are not so hard to solo at low levels as a horsed archer. Get a level or two with them then start adding in some Mountain Bandit parties for a tougher challenge. Also there are now "Deserter" parties, with most of these being made up of one troop tier soldiers ex 10 Vaegir Horsemen, or 10 Swadian Crossbowmen. Look for low teir versions of these groups like 10 Vaegir scirmishers for some added "Training" variety.

    Strange lighting on trees/plants

I have some of my trees glowing too. The rocks also on some maps. The streams in villages that have them are green, well the water in them. Plus I have the no textures on half the weapons issue. All in all so many new good things in .950 are getting overshadowed by the ****ups, so it's hard for me to be positive about it atm especially when .903 worked so well, graphically atleast.

    There's emergent and there's bugged

Lightzy, I have Castles changing hands frequently in my game. It is great that they actually garrison them now but there is still a short window of oppotunity when there exists no garrison. Twice I have stood around and watched a Castle being taken and then raced in to retake it when it's been left empty. Renounce your oath is still an option when the King, or Khan in your case, refuses to give it to you, and he most likely will with all the additional Lord parties now. That could be one way to free you from your dilema.

All the words in the game became solid blocks of color and therefore unreadable.  This happened the second day after leaving Halmar and about a week later when talking to the guild master in Praven.  Both incidents were preceeded by laggy behavior, and the only way to restore words seems to be to exit to the main screen and restore the game.

Try changing the resolution to whatever else and then back to the one you used. Seems to work.

Yeah, but to change the resolution you probably have to exit the game which, also fixes the problem, after the event. What we want is for the event not to happen at all. I've had the text turn into big squarish blocks too often spoiling my whole day.
