What? I didn't understand, you'll have to be a bit slower with me :> The Khan is AWOL, gone.. what can I do to get out of the vassalage?
You may not need to go and actually talk to the Khan to "Renounce your oath"
Have you ever successfully seiged a Castle?
Upon success a screen pops up with the options
a) Ask your Leige for the Castle to be given to you
or
b) Ask for nothing.
If you choose option a) and your Leige (In your case Sanjar Khan) sends a message back (again in the form of a popup screen)
"We were pleased to hear of your actions conquering -insert castle name here- and note that you ask for it to be granted to you blah blah...
I cannot give the castle to you blah blah blah..."
You then get two more options,
a) Accept your Leiges' decission
or (here's the bit you need to pay attention to)
b) Renounce your oath.
Both of these are popup screens that do not require you to be anywhere near the ruler of your faction thus it shouldn't matter if he's missing or not, the game engine generates those screens after you take a castle.
So how does this help you?
In my game castles are changing hands all the time. On two occasions the successfull attacker has moved on immediately and left the castle vacant long enough for me to walk in unopposed. If you can't find a situation like that in your game, take one by force. The first re-garrison force in my game has usually been around 25 troops, which shouldn't be too difficult to dislodge from a Castle.
However you manage to get hold of the Castle choose option a) Ask for the Castle to be granted to you.
In the unlikely event you get it then that's great as you now have a Castle. In the more likely event he rejects your request, you should choose option b) and reject his decission and "Renounce your oath".
And come to think of it, WHY would the alternative-khan refuse me? It doesn't make any sense. I mean, ALL other khergit lords are vassals of the king. what, he wants to just go alone? I would have thought he'd accept any khergit lord.
It was a bad idea, I think, to have him reject you for your vassalage. it doesn't make sense.
Any of three things might be happening here.
One, it's .950, it might be broken, (-rant- so much else is)
Two, You don't have enough Renown,
which ties into
Three, You misrepresented your current situation and you're a Mercenary for the Khergits rather than a sworn in Vassal because you still don't have the renown. Mercenary contracts seem to also be broken from various other threads I've read.
Required Renown to join a Faction used to be 160 minus five times your relationship number with the Faction Ruler.
Claimants may run under this formulae or they may have devised another. Your relationship with the Claimant is probably 0. What's your Renown?
