Yes I had the same issue, rev 261 fixed it for me.
When I give them a move order they switch with melee weapons, then I order them to fire at will & they switch back to bows.
I'm also having this bug with archers. They just behave like infantry all time i need to order them to charge then they pick up bows then i order them to hold position so they give few shots and then swtich back to melee
If you haven't changed the max pre-render frame try to.
The vanilla engine can hardly deal with more than 200 units on my pc ( i5 3570K & gtx 560 ).
I gave up after trying everything that's possible, now I just wait Bannelord & hope for a HUGE engine improvement.
Crosbows damages aren't modified by stats or level, they will always do the same amount of damages.
Bows are weak with a low lvl character, but damages increase with powerdraw & skill.
With powerdraw at 10 & weaponskill at 400 you will be able to two shots a knight with aprox 95 armor & something like 100 hp.
Maybe bows should be rebalanced a bit.
And what is the latest version available?? and where I can download that is not in the svn???? I'm from Cuba, google has blocked access to my country. Seems that there is still some major lag when there's a clash of troops (238 BSize). Dunno if its because of shield bash or something else. But its mostly connected to CPU usage either by scripts or other AI/calculation issues, cause lowering Resolution from 1080 to 720 didn't do jack.
AI is broken in scn_castle_walls_plains3.sco when your are defending.

Can't you merge villages & manors ?
Less parties, less laggy campaign map I believe, more simple management.
Removing manor's treasury, for now you earn the village's taxes directly in your wallet, but have to visit every manors.
