New Ranking System in place (Gone down a rank? Look here to find out why)

I was thinking about setting up such an auto-refresh system. Until I realized there wouldn't be a point. It's just another e-peen contest. Oh well...

Wouldn't someone with a high post-count almost automatically be online a lot?

What was the first Mount & Blade version you played?

0.731, though shortly before the release of 0.75. I found out about this game through slashdot and was hooked on the demo immediately.

    Retail release numbers?

The gamer bonus allows you to register the game with a special key (which is not the same as the M&B serial) on GamersGate. In return you can (re)download the game anytime you want to, should you CD get scratched. A nice idea really, but this is something every game should have and not be considered a bonus.

Anyway, in case this was not clear: The map and the poster are the same thing, its just the two different sides of it. Looks quite nice though,

I just went into my local EB Games hunting for a copy of KOTOR or KOTOR 2 and was quite astonished to see that they had a copy of Mount & Blade. I live in denmark and we sometimes get new releases quite late, so this is really awesome.

Of course I bought it immediately in order to make good on my promise of buying the boxed version. Now I've got two serials
Go home! And don't return without pics!

No pics of the store though, sorry.

Why does everyone think this is the end?

Because the whole point of going 1.0 and having a retail release is to be done with the game. There may come patches to fix minor issues, they may even change some few things, but all in all the point of 1.0 is to be finished. There won't be any groundbreaking gameplay changes hereafter.

    Epic Siege defense

After playing a long time, I finally managed to take a castle and get it as reward (Sungetche Caste). Finally, my own castle . Only trouble is, I play as Vaegir and they are currently at war with Swadia and the Rhodocks. Furthermore, the Khergits still hate me with a passion due to an old war...

    M&B on the Eeepc...

True enough, that. I guess on many system point 1b and 2 are most important, while the spreading of files itself is less important.

However, in theory windows might reserve a good chunk of space for the swapfile regardless of the size it is set to in order to prevent fragmentation. This reserved space would only be used when there is no other space left on the disk, and the space is currently not allocated for the swapfile. But I'm not certain whether this is actually implemented, it would make sense though.

    M&B on the Eeepc...

    Gravelstone 说:
This is more efficient than reading individual files from the disk.

My brother, who's a programmer, wasn't convinced what you've mentioned is true.  How do you know that's the case?

For one thing, the individual files may (or may not) be located in different parts of the disk. This means some overhead for seeking to the correct location for each individual file when loading it. Having one big swapfile will mostly remove this overhead, because all the relevant files are being kept close together. In addition to moving the disk-head for each individual file, the OS itself will impose another small processing overhead in order to load each file into memory - this also is mitigated by keeping everything neatly packed in one big swapfile.

Another thing is that if the application is actually processing the files after loading them (decompressing textures or doing some other processing) the swapfile can store the processed results, instead of the original files. This saves further processing time.

If your brother really is a programmer, he should know this. This is very basic computer knowledge.

Graphical Enhancement 2.5, version 3 is in Pioneer's Guild.

And not to forget, as long as he actually releases it

Not that I want to rush you Zaro, but this all looks so sweet I can't wait to get my hands on it. And I think the arid version actually looks just fine to be used as steppe, but you already said that there won't be any steppe in your mod. I hope eventually that this sort of thing will be fixed (the limit on map textures, the random grass etc.). Anyway, rock on.

The stats from the books should be on top of the normal stats

I got pretty confused about the description here. Anyone mind explaining how the books affect stats in clear terms? I never got so far as to buy books in the game, so I have no first-hand experience.
