  1. Which game is that?

Damn, you couldn't post Karateka or something?  Oh no, that would be too easy ...

Can I have a hint?  What system was it on?
  2. Which game is that?

Indeed, the Apple ][ version.  I'm impressed!

Hmm, not Nethack you say.  I'm just now remembering that Nethack had a fog of war, while your screenshot doesn't, and there's the green dots too, but otherwise it looks remarkably similar, even the stats at the bottom ...

I'm positively stumped though.  Some parts of it remind me of ZZT, but it just looks too much like Nethack.

    [me=Arawyn]gives up[/me]

[edit] Is it an early version of Ragnarok?  (obviously not the popular Ragnarok game, I mean the indie one that was basically a graphic update of Nethack).
  3. Which game is that?

Nethack, but is that a new version?  Haven't played it in ages, but I don't remember the green dots covering the 'empty' areas.

Anyway, here's another classic, but sorry it's such a fossil.  I'm mostly posting this one 'cause I've been curious if it's where one of the admins got his name.

Sorry for the small pic, hard to get good screens on this emulator (yes, that's a hint).

  4. The Final Version Of Mount&Blade

I just have to ask- What is the point of the game? as in, what is the final goal?

Though I'm only level 15, from what I've read in other people's posts, there is no end to the game in it's current beta version.

As I said in my post above, I personally like the fact that there's no definate ending, though I imagine not everyone does. I like Johnathan's suggestion - having the option to end the game or not is a perfect solution that should make everyone happy.
  5. The Final Version Of Mount&Blade

I also voted for 'Vibrant Free-form Play and Goals', and agree with Ingolifs' post.

Many games claim to be free-roaming, but they still generally follow a somewhat linear path. In M & B though, it truly is free-form. I like the fact that there is no actual end to the game, and no overall objective or goal. It gives it a much more realistic feel.

Personally I'd like to see the final version stay true to this aspect and expand on it by providing more things to do, different ways to do them and branch off, but stay away from having an overall final objective to the game.

Also, as other people have said, I think the combat doesn't need much more - it's quite invigorating as it stands in version 0.632.
  6. A number of questions

::edit:: Nevermind, yall are too quick for me.

  7. Mount & Blade Merchant's guide

    Great guide, thanks Ingolifs!

As a new player, I've been doing a great deal of trading lately so I can afford some nice gear, and have been slowly making my own list, but mine isn't nearly this complete or thorough.

Thanks to the other posters as well.
  8. Weapons in battle

I generally try to use my bow as much as possible, and have a balanced longsword / shield combo for backup. I keep a large bag of bodkin arrows equipped, and one in my inventory.

I know the longsword isn't the greatest, but the speed and reach is decent, and it's just such a classic weapon (also I'm only level 12 thus far).

My next character will probably be a bit more barbaric and go with something like a battle-axe / crossbow combo.

I've been practicing with a lance, but I can see it'll take some time to get the hang of.
  9. Introduction/Hello thread

    Hello,

Many thanks to Armagan, Ipek, and everyone else on the development team for a brilliant and innovative game!

For me, it's been quite a breath of fresh air in the gaming world of today, and at the same time, has a classic feel that has been almost impossible to find in recent titles.

I grew up playing the old RPG's of the 1980's, ie: Ultima, Wizardry, Bard's Tale, AD&D. While I won't deny that some games today can be quite good, very few earn that special place in my book that these oldies hold. However in only one week, Mount & Blade already has.

My compliments and thanks to you all!

P.S: I should also mention that I haven't experienced a single bug, glitch, crash, freeze or anything of the sort in the week+ I've been playing. I've noticed many people saying the same though, so this is probably not news to you.
