  1. TLD (The Last Days, LOTR mod) for M&B 1.011 Info

The nightly build install fixed it.  Thanks!
  2. TLD (The Last Days, LOTR mod) for M&B 1.011 Info

    Hello.

I have only recently found out that TLD has been patched for warband.  I installed it just a while ago and everything seems to be running well, except that when I try to go through training, I don't get any equipment and have to fight unarmed.  I installed version 3.3 over a steam version of warband.  Is this just me?

Edit*  I tried searching through this thread and supposedly, this is already fixed.  I don't know what I am doing wrong.
  3. What do you most want to see in the next major release of NE?

By voting for "More Diplomacy Options", I was hoping that there would be an option to recruit mercenary warbands instead of fighting them.

There could be a persuasion skill check, to see if they are convinced, plus maybe renown could be factored in, too.  And of course, they'll ask for money.  The money they ask could be the same as they would in taverns... or maybe even double that.

If you don't have enough space for them in your party, they could either simply refuse and fight you anyway, or if you have your own kingdom, they would become a patrol or something.

Also, I was hoping that if you own your own kingdom, one of your advisers could take loot off of you, then they would convert it into money for use in the kingdom.
  4. Lets talk about Bows

The damage type by bow and arrows is hardcoded in the game to be determined by whatever bow you are using.  Even if you are using a bodkin arrow, if you have a bow that does cutting damage, it will do cutting damage.  You can easily see this in-game by looking at your bow stats.  Something like Hunting Bow 2c, or Longbow 9p  A 'c' after the damage number means it does cutting damage.  A 'p' means it's piercing.

    Arrows don't determine damage type.

Missile speed is determined by the bow.  It's a hidden statistic that can be viewed in the item editor.    It's how fast your arrow travels through the air.

The module system and item editor probably lets you set what type of damage an arrow does, but as far as I know, the game ignores that.  Some players have already reported their findings about it in this forum.

If the modders managed to overcome this limitation of the game, and I just did not notice, someone please correct me, as I'd really love it if arrows determined the damage type, and not the bows.

Also, Archery really really needs a huge investment in skill points to be really enjoyable.  If you don't have that much skill points to spare, consider being just a foot archer and ramp up that power draw.

EDIT:  I can't hit anything with throwing weapons unless it's standing still.
  5. Lets talk about Bows

When using bows in Native Expansion, pick any bow that does piercing damage.  Ignore all bows that do cutting damage.  My personal preference is the Teak Khergit Bow, for the easy availability, and good accuracy and speed rating.  Power Draw requirement and missile speed is not that bad, either.

For arrows, only the numerical value of damage matters (only the bow determines the damage type), for that reason, Barbed arrows do the most damage.

If you are going to be a dedicated archer, consider bringing two quivers of arrows, and a twohander/polearm.  Use your footmen as your shield instead.

If you plan on being a horse archer, don't expect to be accurate on while on a galloping horse until your horse archery skill is at least 5.
  6. Weapons questions, and some others

As a low level character, you won't really notice the effectivity of the trainer skill, however when you reach around level 30, you can pump your recruits all the way to arbalestiers without ever going into battle.

Prisoner recruitment does not work all the time, and you have to work off that morale penalty.  While you can get elite units from prisoners, I always prefer to use trained up recruits to buff up garrisons... so I can keep my elite prisoners to myself.
  7. Weapons questions, and some others

...Don't spend points into Trainer on your char, spend them on one of your heros.
    ...

    I have to disagree here.

Trainer is a personal skill.  I prefer to have it maxed on my char, and as high as possible in all other NPCs, the exp bonus stacks with each NPC's skill.  You won't notice it on higher tier units  because they need more exp to level up, and they won't gain any bonus exp from training if their level is higher than yours or your NPCs.

Personally, I use these to train up Rangers or Skalds for use as garrison fodder.
  8. Where can I get an awesome one handed weapon?

    Let's do a quick comparison:

Knightly Blade: Speed: 130  Length: 135  Swing: 41c  Thrust: 25p
    Claymore:  Speed: 120  Length: 120  Swing: 62c  Thrust: 32p

So, It's a choice between speed + reach against raw power.  Personally, I'd go for raw power if I have good armor.  I have mediocre armor, I'd go for the knightly blade.

I still use a morningstar even when I have a claymore, because I find that the claymore is kind of awkward during sieges.
  9. Best way to cash-in loot?

I also have 5 PM, and that's also a steady source of income.

However my "problem" is that I have a lot of loot to sell and noone can pay me for it!  I'm fighting against the holy swadian empire, and they tend to drop a loot that cost 1500 and upwards individually, some of them cost 5000!  and my trade skill is just 3, from my companion... Tismanu probably.

So I have to go tour the Nords, Vaegirs, Rhodoks and even Khergits, just to finish selling my stuff, by the end of which, my inventory is once again half full because Swadia won't quit bugging my kingdom with sieges.
  10. Best way to cash-in loot?

I have been playing this mod for a while now, great mod!  However, selling loot is really becoming a chore.  I'm playing as a ruler of my own kingdom... and from the many battles I get a lot of loot, with each item worth 800-5000 denars, which most merchants at the marketplace can't afford, so I...
  11. Where can I get an awesome one handed weapon?

balanced morningstar.  39 pierce, if I'm not mistaken.  Weapons with cut damage is fine against bandits, but for armored enemies, it's nice to have pierce.
  12. Lamellar Armor Retexture

    Zaro 说:
It doesn't 'ruin' the texture, it replaces the mail shirt texture just as it replaces the lamellar cuirass texture. You can add them as separate items, but that's assuming someone actually wants to go through the hassle of doing so, and it doesn't seem like the poster who had the problem would be prepared to do that.

Yes, that is right. However, the problem is I kind of overwrote the texture for the mail shirt as I would explain in this image:

    http://aquietfrog.deviantart.com/art/lamellar-texture-95452292

(uploaded in deviantart because i can't connect to imageshack for an unknown reason)

as such, I will attempt to make a 'plug and play' version of the retexture when i can.
  13. Lamellar Armor Retexture

    Zaro 说:
You have to rename one of them to costumes4. It replaces the native texture.

Um, If you do that, I think you would totally ruin the texture for the mail shirt, because the texture for mail shirt and lamellar armor overlap.

I think it would be better if you would use the module system for this particular retexture.

Here is how I did it for my own personal use:

    1. Open BRF editor, export the lamellar armor mesh, then create a new BRF and import the mesh there.
    2. Assign costume4-a (or costume4-b) as the texture for that mesh.  If you want both textures, clone the item and assign the texture appropriately.  Also, rename the mesh appropriately ( named mine "leather_lamellar" and "iron_lamellar").
    3. Using the module system, assign "leather_lamellar" or "iron_lamellar" to the appropriate item.
  14. New set of 61 additional female sounds available

Haha, I agree some of those sounds...sound rather naughty.  If you're using wavepad, maybe you can try and run it through the noise reduction routine.
  15. No entry in Module_Sounds for female cheers

I use wavepad editor.  I find it easy enough to use and does what I intend to do.  It can be downloaded for free, but the more complete version is shareware.

Anyway, I think it's better that you grab a sound editor that allows you to specify the format of the save file you make.
