    If someone is asking how and why I found that:
    I was trying to remove all items quickly, then I realized clicking and using the popup would take more time than just dragging. When I saw the popup was still there after I remove the item I click the discard arrow because it looked like a close button at first.

    So there is also some UX problem here, but I would focus on the Crash problem first.

    Summary: I clicked an equipped item and it popped up a few buttons (discard, unequip, preview). Then instead of using the pop up I dragged the item and dropped in my inventory.     The same for me, the battle starts just fine. Once soldiers start fighting and killing the FPS drops to 1.
    My suspicions: Related to AI retreating movement or some listener to kill event.

    Edit: Just restarted the game and entered te same huge battle and performance was good. I was playing for a few hours, maybe memory leak?

    Also note that for the bugged villagers party isn't firing HourlyTickPartyEvent.

    I'm not sure if I can give you that way to reproduce (Would need to dig more on the API) ?

    I think this is a "future" problem for anytime soon, either a mod or an official patch can do it. Even if is not being done yet, the API allows devs to call Clan.setLeader(null). That would lead to the crash because of the dailyTick on CalculateClanIncome. As a developer I don't recommend leaving that kind of crash possibility on the code.
