Fixing Order of Battle Formations

Taleworlds,

The OOB system is a good starting point but there needs to be changes addressed with the system. It is still nigh impossible to configure your troops how you want it. For example, there are some troops that have multiple different sets (clicking between the different styles of unit) that could have polearm or axes in that specific set; see Strugia Axemen. Sometimes these soldiers will have axes and spears, thus making them impossible to split up in order to create better formations.

I believe IMO, that the best way to address this issue is to allow the player, in the party screen menu to set which formation each soldier should belong to. Then when a battle comes, the OOB will allow the player to have multiple formations with specific subunits to cater to. If Taleworlds cannot address this, is there a mod that already address this issue?

it actually used to work like that in the earlier versions and then Taleworlds ruined the game by removing it and adding the horrifical order of battle feature.

My only problem with the old system is that you have to set your formations by troop name, so you can't have half of your legionaries in each formation for example. Having something like the hideout attack party selection screen for each formation would be enough, preferably with the possibility to set it outside of combat and the option to have a few presets saved.

That sounds like a great idea!

Agreed

Now its impossible to separate longbowmen from crossbowmen or lord forbid short bows from long bows since former is quicker to shot and would be better suited vs low armor.

Nor is it possible to put farmers into separate group to level them up.

the problem with the old system ist that it wasnt intuitive enough. the oob system is meant to ease things up.

for the majority of time, the troops you are using are constantly switching because of re-recruitments, different tiers and factions. that is making a custom assignment very timeconsuming and annoying, especially on consoles. imagine having 20-30 different kind of units and you have to assign all of them each and every time there is a change in your party. it gets even worse if you are commanding an army or join a siege, as you cannot access troops of other party leaders. and even if, it would make the micro management even worse. imagine spending half of an hour just for stupid troop formation assignments and checking if everything is allright.

as bad as the current system is, the old system is not a solution aswell. the current system should be better, if it would work like it's supposed to. instead of going backwards, i would like if the dev is embracing the task and polishs the new system.
