Momentum

Sergeant at Arms

Patch e1.6.4 introduced a change to the blocking mechanics, which brings the game one step closer to realism:

  • Attacks now take into account the relative movement speed between the attacker and the target when deciding if an attack will bounce or not.
And this is very good. Only now it is not clear why the developers have chosen some intermediate option for improving this system. To achieve full physical realism of the blocking system, the use of the momentum formula is required: momentum is the product of the mass and velocity of an object (P=MV).

This would allow us to enjoy the game physics of the hit/block system, fully consistent with the postulates of Newtonian mechanics. But yes, in that case, we would not be able to use spatha or fugio to block the blow of the vulge or the ax/hammer of the berserker?‍♂️...
But do developers have enough competencies to solve such a task? And no less important - are we ready to accept reality as it is, abandoning the usual fantasy element?

Choose one

Seriously tho, you should wait for mod support for mp and make a mod or hope someone else makes one for your liking. Community would decide then, if they would care such "realistic features". But please for the love of God, stop trying to make this game "realistic".

For the love of god why are people still crying about realism, it has been said many times over that it is NOT the target. Go outside if you want realism.

If we want realism we shouldn't be allowed to block stabs with holding our weapon down. A cav bump should be high damage or insta kill. If you get hurt your fighting abilities should get reduced.

Go home with your crappy realism.

Not only gamers "cry" about realism - this is already the mainstream and a key direction in the development of the gaming industry. Deal with it, uncle:ohdear:... And if you live to see the release of M&B 3 (or 4?‍♂️), then playing it you definitely won't be able to block the hammer blow with something like a knife for slicing your favorite pizza?.
So why not start practicing with more advanced physics for developers now? And the changes they make to the game mechanics (albeit a little cautious), in my opinion, prove that they are on the right track in the technology race?.

How it annoys me when a recruit blocks an attack with his SICKLE, and the attacker has a HUGE HAMMER. This has to be changed!

Source?

Let's take one of the biggest game platforms there is and look at the top selling games.
AOEIV, so much realism
FH5, totally not an arcade racer
Marvels GoG
New World
Hades
****ing Timberborn.
Phasmophobia.

The only realism you will find is maybe "Fetish locator Week 2", some football games and farming simulator.

There are very few games which actually try to achieve realism because realism is in general not much fun. Imagine realism with CSGO, "O you got shot in the leg? Well guess no walking for you anymore".

You do understand that it would mean that the horse's mass will also be taken into account? A strike from a horseback will be devastating and a bump at full speed would be incapacitating. That would tilt the balance to the cav's side immensely. If you think cav is op now, imagine how op it will be with momentum implemented.

Why not if this will be combined with an increase in the realism of the player and AI detection of an approaching horse and the AI's response to this (attempts to avoid an accident or use an existing weapon)?

Because it wouldn't be fun?
How would you balance cav? Because if it realistic it will just kill a person by running into it, which is incredibly OP and the meta will just be hold up your shield and run your horse into the enemy.
Archery would just be; shoot them in the feet so they can't move anymore.
Heavy armour would be basically not penetrable with swords

Realism != Fun
Realistic Graphics != Good Graphics.

It has been said many times, including the developers, that realism is not something that is aimed for.

Crush through last year August was fairly realistic, we all saw how that turned out.

Say something more. You got me interested in this.
Lmao, it was god awful.

Every 2h or polarm weapon had the same crush through mechanic as hammers have now but then times 5, easier to do and faster weapons.

You could abuse it so easily that there often was no point in blocking anyways as it would still do 40-150 damage

Oh no xD

If this game was realistic, cav would cost 3000 gold. There is a reason there was so many dudes with just a pointy stick throughout history and little armor
