Why was the Pilum made into a spear?

The goal is to cover a scenario that supports your thesis in excruciating detail, hoping to distract people from scenarios that don't support your thesis. All this does for sensible adults though is that it betrays an inability to communicate clearly and concisely, for example like Caesar in Gallic Wars. What a waste of papyrus!

if this change is intended, then its basically a nerf. the Pilum coming in at 114 weapon length makes for a terrible polearm, even their swords are longer and have higher thrust damage than the Pilum. but then what about units like Menavliatons? the Pilum is not used at all by them because they already have an actual spear as their main weapon. i'm thinking this is not going to remain this way because it just feels odd
