Tjey tried nerfing it. For two months in the summer couch lances only oneshot with good speed bonus and only dealt 40 without. It made sense to me.
But cav mains, and i think including you, were bragging about its InCoNsIsTeNt damage until they reverted it.
TBF, the damage is overall inconsistent and it just didnt feel right sacrificing all your protection to couch a guy for 35 damage in the head. The inconsistencies were no problem before and are no problem now because 110-400 Dmg does simply oneshot

It is as unreliable against archer as pushing him without a shield. You're showing him your head and relying on his inaccuracy. Archers never get punished by solo cav, unless he's unaware or he's missing a shot, or he switched his weapon to melee. The only reliable thing for solo cav against archer is throwing spear.
This just isn't true at all, archers routinely get punished by couches, and moreover they shouldn't be going solo anyway.

Considering hitting the shield does not cancel the couch lance (as it did in Warband), and hitting the horse does not necessarily dismount the horse, if anything it's the archer at a disadvantage as in order to survive they have to land a hit and even if they do the rider is probably still alive unless it's a high dmg weapon headshot such as xbow. With the flick inaccuracy, holding shot inaccuracy, reload time if you're caught at in opportune time, and generally high manoeuvrability of cav at very high speeds, it's not set in stone at all who wins such an outcome.

That's assuming the archer is aware and it's a solo cav, which is just one facet of couches vs archers and not even the ideal scenario (you should be couching them when they are pressured, pushed, focused on elsewhere etc). Pretending archers don't get couched is silly. It happens constantly, in both games.

It feels less advantageous for cav because often many troops have 3 lives whilst cav have just 2 so the risk doesn't feel worth it, but that's because respawning is a bad mechanic for competitive, not because couches are bad vs shieldless archers.

If you open up your shield at any point while charging any aware div A archer as cav, you will be headshot 95% of the time. 9/10 solo cav vs archer situations the archer gets damage on the rider or his horse while cav is forced to go away since there's nothing he can do as soon as the initial attack is over and the archer pulls out his melee weapon.

Anyway, not the point of this thread. x go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This is just cav brain nonsense where they think everyone is an unstoppable special forces sniper because they got killed a few times doing a badly timed couch. Archers get couched frequently in both Warband and Bannerlord at the top level.

if you want to remove couch lances due to them being an one hit mechanic, pilas n **** should be gone as well, just saying. good thing that neither is gonna happen cuz the devs have their superior unwanted trash vision of the game!!!

One-shot mechanics should be reworked - both for pilas and couches. A lot of rounds are turning into a freaking lottery cus of them.
Even if they remove couches cavs still have 80dmg hit to heavy inf which is hilarious in BL skirmish. I don't understand how cav players can whine about removing the couch if you guys still have your op stab, high armor and mobility.

I am puzzeled. A pointy stick is aimed at you at the terminal velocity of a galloping horse AND with the impulse of said horse including rider totalling 1 ton? And you are complaining, that this will take you out for good?

Isn't this the intention of heavy cav? Proposed counter: Blob together. Use spears. Brace. Get that goon off his saddle once he crashes into your formation. Try to kill his horse. (Provided he cannot maneuver around in INF like a hot knife in butter.), use cover, if you see those coming, if possible.

I think: balance has not its place here. One could question, why there are true heavy knights (horse, heavy armor, couchable lance) allowed in multiplayer skirmishes and what the map design could tell us about this. Either we have an open field engagement and then big units but also lance-wielding knights are totally viable or small skirmishes in villages or inside a fort where a mounted lancer should have no place.

Or rather: is that build (horse + couchable lance) destroying the fun in MP on current maps? And why? Should it be allowed?

But again, we seem to want to have it all at once AND please everyone...
