Troops Evaluation

Sturgia should have infantary nobel tree. And the three Empire factions should have unique noble units. One can have a cav, one Xbow and one infantary.

Also remake your autocalc to be less cav dependant or atleast if you fight in a forest infantary is favourable over cav and such.

They've been pretty thoroughly balanced. I haven't seen a Khuzait snowball in 2 or 3 updates.

In fact, I've seen them lose half their territory to the Asari and the Northern Empire in one playthrough. In my current game, they managed to expand into the Southern Empire, but lost all the cities they gained to rebellions - and those cities are now mine.

What you will find though, is like butterflies in Africa, player interactions can cause one faction or another to snowball by weakening their neighbours beyond what they're balanced for, and that might coincidentally be the Khuzaits sometimes, other times it might be Battanian or Vlandia or whoever. But because we've all been primed to think the Khuzaits always snowball, it doesn't take much for that cognitive bias to be confirmed when they do coincidentally take off...

Give it long enough and you might find they get beaten back in your playthrough as well. If they pass Debasement of The Currency you'll see their cities flip like it's going out of fashion.
thing is, ive just been doing merchant stuff and fighting bandits. Mainly just seeing what the factions do. All ive really done is 2-3 merc fights against single southern empire parties for the Aserai

Well when it comes to the Empire the Crossbowmen feel.. Awkward. They perform a lot less well than their archer counterparts but also when it comes to the Sergeant Crossbowmen.. It sort of feels like they are what the Palatine Guards are meant to be. Tough durable archers that can double as Infantry.. Except they're not that great compared to the actual Palatine Guards at range. So there's a definite part of me that agrees with removing the Crossbowmen, but i'd probably give the Palatine guards the kit of the Sergeant Crossbowmen (sans crossbow obv.) , maybe give them slightly less bow skill to compensate. And use the crossbowmen slots to maybe flesh out the Buccellarii more, who could also do with more armour. The Empire's shtick in general seems to be tactical flexibility combined with armour. Yet the Buccellarii kinda break with that by being less armoured than their counter parts and less flexible.. Plus a lot damn harder to obtain.

Otherwise the empire is pretty good, just a bit weird with it's range troops and the usual issue with noble troops and cavalry. Maybe for the factions that have Infantry transition into Noble cavalry they can just get more of the Noble infantry perhaps to compensate ?

It’d be nice if the new battle map system leads to each region being classified as a “type” like forest, mountain, plain, etc. And then that “type” could affect the autocalc. For example nullifying the cavalry bonus in a forest “type.” That might negate the need to have equal numbers of cavalry to balance out autocalc. Thus allowing a little more variety.

i really hope so

What so good in it ? I'd prefer 2 h axe or sword.
Its a lot longer, and it deals heaps of damage. Compared to the falx, its far better as an anti cavalry weapon. No seriously, go and match veteran falxmen up against the same number of Elite Cataphracts. The Veteran Falxmen should utterly decimate the cavalry.

Regular Falxes won't do that. They'll break down cavalry eventually (two handers in general have enough oomph to hurt them), but not before taking a hit themselves. Granted, they tend to do better in melee against infantry, but the rhomphaia will do just as fine.

I would just give falxes to Fian Champions and leave it at that. Or hell, just do what my mod does and design a separate 'two hander' gallowglass troop.

That's a problem, falxman is kinda anti-infantry unit and then vet. Falxman becomes anti-cavalry unit . It's mixed. Why do this ? Better make another branch for rhomphalia bearers.
For example: it's like sturgian line breaker turns into vet. spearman instead heroic line breaker. No , vet. spearman has his own branch.
Fians already have 2h swords.

Not using mods right now , but thanks, will keep it in mind.

I just abandoned my Battanian playthrough. This troop's tree pisses me off, upgrade all troops randomly they are almost all same anyway. The scenario only one : collect as many fians as you can and kill everything that moves.
And I think I broke my tongue trying to pronounce my battanian wife's name.

Veteran falxmen are still anti infantry, they just happened to become anti cavalry as well. Its no different to infantry suddenly becoming cavalry, or skirmishers becoming archers.

Its not remotely the same as a line breaker becoming vet spearman. What you describe is a specialised unit outright losing its former role as anti infantry.

So why can't Fians have falxes too? I don't see the issue with giving them a mix. Considering we're talking about Battania, it might even make sense for an elite, noble group of warriors to want their own stuff. Hell, wouldn't mind seeing axes on them either. Make them mixed and irregular to match Battania's character.

Yeah that would be cool. Forest infantary, plains/grassland cavalry and mountain skirmisher/archers. This way Sturgia with their vast forrests they already have could get help from that, the mountain type train of Battania for their skirmisher and if they got another archer unit and so on.

I'd very much like to see branched noble troops. For example I don't see why Sturgia can't have Noble Infantry instead of cavalry - it's much more thematic for their faction.

Falx as 2h sword can hit multiple enemies, rhomphalia as polearm - can't. Rhomphalia is long. have a good reach , but handling not so good as falx's handling. So rhomphalia is better on distance while falx is better in close combat. Falx is better against shielded troops , rhomphalia is way better against mounted troops. It's different usage as for me.

I'm not saying it's not effective or something,

I guess it's ok . We even won't see a difference I reckon.
But I would give them 1h axe as fians will drop close combat effectiveness.
To be honest I don't like when troops have randomly mixed ammunition. Like Battania wood runner sometimes have shield and sometimes not.

I suppose, but I would not give wildlings Rhomphaia at all with your proposed idea. You'd quickly find that they'd straight up outclass whatever idea you'd have for Veteran Falxmen fast. And it doesn't make sense either to ramp up a skirmishing unit's effectiveness that greatly.

Frankly, no to stripping Fians of their awesome. I am extremely attached to the whole bow and two hander thing that Fians have going on. Its unique and cool. Why should they be like any other archer?

Like I said, Battania is the faction that doesn't feel like they would be into uniformity. They'd be all for mixed up stuff.

Then , maybe vet. Falxman splits into 2 branches: 1 with falx and 1 with rhomphalia.
Anyway, it's gonna be like devs will do.
Thought, I don't think having oathworn and wildling it's ok
