SP - Player, NPCs & Troops Adding horses to clan parties

If i gift sumpter horses to my clan parties as well as regular saddle horses, they are lost from that NPC's inventory (when you barter with them) after a while. Someone had suggested on the steam forums that the horses are used up for an upgrade. Is that actually coded in that they need to buy horses to upgrade horse troops? and even if so, sumpter horses should remain in their inventory.
There should be a way to allow or empower an clan party to purchase horses equal to their footman size to increase their campaign map speed. Especially since they can easily be swamped by kuzait parties that are much faster.

Well, if parties is lead by companions you can't trade horses with them at all, (or anything else for that matter).

Shouldn't be any difference between actual family/clan/lords and companions when it come to interactions that have impact on the actual party. Because such a difference do exist, companions make poor choices as party leaders.
