So i thought about a thread for fellow merchants players;
What's your way in making money?
How many caravans you own and do they make a good profit?
Etc'

So i am technically a Bedouin lol:
I buy a ton of sheep & wool where they are produced and travel to(usually the western empire) and sell them in bulk.
Usually earning a 30-40% profit.
That's where i focus, ofc if there are any opportunities to earn an extra dennar i go after it.
(Any type of animal doesn't take inventory space)

Recently bought 2 caravans(companions with no trade skills) and with a army of 60-ish that's a lot in wages!
My party wages:around 550
Caravan 1: 250
Caravan 2: 200
In total : 1k in wages

Clean revenue :
Caravan 1: 1200 (Highest) - 250(Lowest)
Caravan 2: 1150 (Highest) - 200(Lowest)
In total: 2350 (Highest) - 450(Lowest)

Total Earnings // Losses:
1350+ // -550

These fluctuate a lot day to day but that's the rough amount.I usually earn more than i lose in a given week.

Question:
Has anyone set a caravan with a companion with trade skills? How much do they earn?

*If anyone else here hasn't already found out - if you buy mules/cheap horses they give you extra inventory capacity!
I found out by accident while carrying horses for a quest.

This is how I profit in recent months:
Saneopa -> Vostrum = Silver Route
Onira -> Saneopa = Hides/Pottery
I was doing grain/salt when I first started, but figured out it is better to trade high-value items.

I also wonder relation of companion's trade-skill.Are there any companions with any trade-skill? I didn't search for it, but mine doesn't hve.

I want to follow this thread, but I am also posting a question (instead of answers..)
Does anyone figured out why the suggested position and prices for buying/selling are so different of what you will find? I thought cause caravans arrived/left but also super near towns seems to have that problem.

So I haven't bothered with the Caravans yet, decided I'd be my own. I found out that talking to villagers before they go to market can net you some great deals. I spent 2000 denars for a ****load of Iron Ore and like 40 horses, sitting pretty on about 200 horses now and 60k denars. This is going to dwindle fast as I decided to join Battania who immediately went to war with the western empire and vlandia, both of who I was regularly selling ore to

I think it's because these prices are "trade rumors" as they are not fact.
I have the trade perk that marks item prices so i don't get that problem often.
Also the trade rumors could be old! (The more faded it is,the older it is)

Usually they are close enough that i make a profit

Yeah,high-value items are more efficient...Like in the real world, you need more money to make money haha.

I've been doin Pottery too Poros/Lyacorn--> Jalmarys
Usually with the sheep/wool i do:
Whole of eastern empire directly from villages --> Western Empire

I haven't met a companian yet with any trade-skill sadly

Yeah that's technically what i did,i was the caravan myself.
But later i would advise you to buy some when u have 20k+
They usually net a good passive profit: 3 caravans outprofit their own wages+my 60 strong army(half elites) 70% of the time.

Though i'm still neutral so in war it would probably be different.
Especially in your place,unlucky .

Everyone beware from the caravan escort missions!
They can net huge profits( 2-9k ! )

Butttttt,if you leave them for one second when they leave town and you're in the town waiting they spawn huge bandit armies 50-80 strong that can dwindle your army easily with their F**k ton of arrows and javalins. They automatically run from you,but if you're not out of the town waiting, they spawn and attack the caravan immediately.

Beware of some workshops... the wood worker one seems a little broken, and is giving me between 8k and 12k per day
It took the essence of trading away, I'm going to delete it and try to spend all the dirty money.

Buying raw materials from some villages, for example iron ore, and selling them at towns brings in ridiculous amounts of money.
Pottery is also good to trade if you find somewhere to sell it.
Generally I'd say don't bother with buying raw materials from towns unless you already know a place where you can profit from them.
One more thing: Sell food to towns that have recently been besieged for profits.

Yeah war makes things a little difficult, but I think it'll be the same if you're running caravans. Only stable sort of income I think is going to be workshops, providing you don't lose your town. (Did I mention Vlandia just straight up went around the Battanians and conquered the only city I had with a workshop >.<)

I would like to consider myself as merchant but i am really not lol, i force villages to give me supplies and fight their milliaries, usually i get a decent amount of slaves from each battle and decent amount of loots too, the best part of it is that you dont have to wait too long to do that again like raiding. Imo that is just evil and i am loving it

I hope you started with "I will drink from your skull!"

Oh bummer hehe,
Currently with 3 caravans i'm making 1-2k a day so it's not op but nice.
Thing is the AI can be stupid sometimes during war,i've seen a caravan running in enemy territory just to get wiped out for no apparent reason raather being a town on it's way.

If your culture is Sturgian, you can make massive profits during winter. AI traders are bogged down by the snow which leads to some massive price disparities.

I think this is because they are simply rumours and not guaranteed? Though I find they are more accurate the higher your trade skill. It could also be that the market fluctuates before you get there
