Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Developer Blog 15 - Valuable Relationships

Users who are viewing this thread

Greetings all and thanks for making your way over to our 15th Development Blog. It's been a little while since we updated the blog, but we've been hard at work on the game and we're excited to talk a little about something we've been working on recently.

That's strange. Instead of hyping the game just before EA, when everybody is interested, they go silent.
I can understand they might be busy, but you don't pass up this opportunity to get more people excited and willing to be parted from their toilet paper funds.
Callum said they don't want to hype community for EA, they don't wish to profil at this state. Because of this is still testing phase and its non etchical to advertise to profit at this state.

5 or maybe 6 Years ago I was so much excited about Bannerlord
now I mainly check Taleworlds website to laugh (like it's a real-life joke) or give myself motivation never to become like you
I'm not even sure when (if) this comes out I'll be able to play any video games after I'm 30...
See you guys with another post on 2020
Good Job really!"

So what do you think happens when you turn 30? Do you stop playing games? Does your trigger finger wither up and fall off or are you afraid your wife won't let you?

I'll let you in on a secret. The older you are the less people there are that will tell you what to do and so you can make more decisions in your own favour.
Amen to that.

They have actually said that they will not be hyping or advertise the EA, because its an EA and they dont want people to come in and expect a completely finished/polished game.

This. Makes perfect sense, there's some notable EA games on steam where the hype ultimately killed the game *cough* No Man's Sky *cough*, though NMS was also filled with misleading advertisement. Hype can come for full release.

Agreed, just when we see some of the misunderstandings and such even on this site, about what have been said and not said about the game, I think Taleworlds could get into alot of trouble, if they were out massively hyping up the game. Ps Im also very tired of game companies hyping up their games as finished products and when we get them, they are not even worthy of being called alpha state, games like: No Mans Sky, Fallout76 and Anthem and many more.

If they don't want to advertise it, why sell it? It makes little sense and advertising doesn't need to be hype. Thanks for the responses though.
Maybe they lack confidence in their product, but need the money and the free testing, so it's all low key and for sympathetic fans only.

What they said was, that they did not want to do press for the game as it was not a full release, which i think is extremely commendable. Also reason for doing EA is that its an extremely good way to find all of those bugs that requires thusands of hours of game time, while also bringing something out for the fans of the series, then when the game is complete they can advertice it to all the new players who would likely be put off by the lacks an EA release is likely to have. Also, i dont think any studio has the money for the testing needed to fully polish a game like Bannerlord, thats why we are seeing so many buggy releases today, Taleworlds atleast has the sense to say its EA, where as Bethesda say its a full working game with better detail than ever before, while saying the only reason Theres negativity is because youtubers want clicks for money.

Because we demand it. I mean if they anounced that game will be out next year but it is totally playable right now, people would get furious. We would say 'Why you are not releasing it in form of EA' etc.

Well, you still have the safe option to ignore EA now and get the game after full release.
They even said in one devblog they use computers to run the game on its own and see how the economy and kingdoms fare. It will uncover lots of bugs and "features" players wouldn't be happy about but it still won't cover everything. More likely when there will be input of many players and the game is deeper than it shows.

Yes, I think playing unfinished games is a waste of time, but most people don't and support EAs out of curiosity. I don't think it's the players' job to find bugs, but some people like to volunteer.
This is a problem for people like myself.
Most of the players play the EA version and move on. By the time the game is properly released, there are not many players left. I saw this happen with Rimworld, one of my favorite games. I waited for the full release (and it was a good call, as it got streamlined and balanced in the last betas), but all the wikis and a lot of mods are for previous alpha/beta versions. There was virtually no community left.
Something similar is bound to happen with the Bannerlord community, although it is more resilient. Many players would have moved on by the time of the full release, having their curiosity satisfied.
(And to make things worse, TW is going to release modding tools only at the full release, leaving EA modders on their own, AFAIK. Most of the mods would be made in the EA phase, with modders being forced to develop their own tools. AGAIN.
Add to this TW's proven inability to plan and we have no idea how long we should wait for the full release. If the company doesn't go bankrupt from horrible cost overruns and then we get some farewell beta instead.)

Vader got more than one point there with the last post, Rimworld is a prime example
(This game would have been long forgotten without the moddability.)

It would work out fine if they don't let EA last for years.
M&B folk is sturdy old ****, but its been a while until we arrived here (and our numbers are limited, not everyone is as suffering-happy.)
I doubt that M&B/Taleworlds will survive another 5 years of EA.

I really, really hope (first step on the road of disappointment, i know), that they are closer to a 1.0 Version than my poor old guts are trying to tell me.
This game needs to be at a stable beta state asap and a full release (be it a buggy one) latest in a year or it will get rough.

I better not think about it... because
TW's proven inability to plan
... heyyyyy its finally released next weeeeeek.
Positive thinking and all that.
If one had told me i would be able to play Bannerlord at all before i die 2 years ago, i would have laughed at him and see where we are now

5 years of EA? they have stated they hope to be out of EA before years end and have also said modding tools might be out before the end of EA.

I don't remember them saying that Timmortal, and it sounds rather soon to say the least, even before the pandemic is taken into account.
They have said that, but it was before the pandemic. It does not need to be rather soon not, EAs can vary alot, some EAs are pretty much alphas others are more like betas. Taleworlds have said that they are giving us a working game full of features, but that some features will be missing or some parts of them missing.

you could also just read the tab of info they have on steam, though i have also read it on this forum.
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“While we do not have a set date for a full release at this moment in time, we expect that the game will be in early access for around a year. Our focus is on ensuring that the game is fun and enjoyable rather than imposing a deadline that might have a negative impact on the final product.”

Course, if I had a dollar for every time TW didn't fulfill it's "wish list" of promises and almost promises, I could retire in comfort.
And just what are all these broken promises that would make you so rich? There have been a few, but its not so bad as many claim.
