Recruit
New here, been browsing and reading for a while but had minor reg problems so i couldn't register . All i wanted to say is thanks to the team here for creating a wonderful mod for such a wonderful game, you make it much more enjoyable. A couple of questions though to everyone in general:
1- How do you all level up your troops, without annoying any factions? All i can think is endless grinding of bandits, which don't really yield much XP.

.....and raise your "trainer" skills.....And recruit "trainer" NPC's:  The "Lezalit"(Geoffrey) and "Bunduk" (Niall) characters.

Thanks mate. I honestly thought no-one was going to answer. Which would have upset me. Is there a certain point where you begin to attack a certain faction? I can hold my own when i have a round 60 trained troops, which is about lvl4+, but i only have 35 troops, of which 25+ are tier3+, and so i am still ecruiting my ideal army, and i don't fancy starting a fued with anyone, but i was wondering if anyone has a specific way of starting.

Farm the low level bandits, recruit companions and run postal missions for the lords. Money and lewt goes to upgrade the companions, self upgrades mostly into "command" skills like prisoner and inv. management, training, etc. Train a medical(Jeremus) and trade (Katrin/Marnid) specialist. As your skills and group grow bite off bigger bands. Eventually a lord will offer you a mecenary contract. Keep farming, and hanging round your faction army, join battles that your faction is going to win easily, remember your troops are "Squishier" than your faction lords' bands. Try to stay out of trouble till you can give as good as you get, but be there to share in the lewt and prisoners, recruit the ones you can use to your band. I like to have about 35 of my allowed 45 troops to keep the morale penalty of large bands under control. I like heavy cav. as the speed helps reel in target groups.... Though archers are very tempting in this mod. (I have an all-archer band in "Hundred Years War" with lots of "Spare" horses in inv. to speed the chases.... We all dismount to fight.   ).
When you are accepted as a vassal keep up the good work building your band, don't worry to much if your fief gets repo'ed as lewt and prisoners are your main sources of income...keep about 2 weeks payroll on hand....I know that you just have to have that nice shiny armour you saw in Wal-Mart, but when your troops start deserting even kryptonite armour won't help much as you stand alone facing 300 highland savages.
Eventually, as you start to win battles on your own and save your peers' cojones from their follies (you prolly have around 100 pretty 'leet troops by now) you will be offered a chance at marshal..... Be careful which castles you ask for.....you might get them... and the garrison costs can kill you..   One safe castle with lots of improvements to keep your lord prisoners and your 'leet infantry (Seige-fodder) in is better than lots of scattered barely held castles.... Remember, lewt and prisoners.. Oh, and pillaging caravans   A nice town is a very good investment.
As you practise "Marshalling" you will find that not many of your lords will do what they are told, hang around for the sieges, or even protect the castles they are given. So go slow and take more lords to the party than you think you will need, and leave a couple to patrol around the new acquisition no-matter who gets offered it.
Carry on like this and you will soon own the whole map.....or have run off to another mod to be a carefree bandit again....

Thanks Chopa, makes alot of sense. Took all the advice, and now i am looking at developing the tactics to fit my own playing style.
