Then you should know that linguistically the term 'Viking' or rather 'Vikingr' is a word found in Old Norse denoting an activity/a group of people involved in an activity, namely a group of warriors/sailors acting as seafaring marauders. Furthermore, the term was often linked with the connotation of a free enterpriser rather than a vicious raider and pillager, at least among the people from which the Vikingr were drawn. Still further, the Norwegians weren't the only Scandinavian peoples to engage in 'Viking', nor did they constitute the nationality of the majority of the invaders that started seriously plaguing England in the 9th century, who were, in fact, Danish.
