ahh yes, palpatine the VERY ALIVE:

Qdag.gif

imagine being so incompetent you kill off the entirety of your opposition in the second film in the trilogy and have to bring back an already dead character to have any compelling villain.

genuinely curious what is it about TLJ that you like?

Oh no they killed Snoke that really interesting character everyone loved ??

TLJ is good because it gets that TFA was rehashed crap and tries to do something interesting and genuinely advance everyone's characters.

A shame this new one will be too scared to do the same.

A shame this new one will be too scared to do the same.

The issue is that rather than make snoke an interesting villain, which there was the potential to do, TLJ just killed him and left an angsty teen with the same intimidation factor as fietta on the forums (kylo) as the main villain.

I agree with you that TFA was rehashed crap (maybe I wouldn't go that far, it was a mediocre and pretty boring film but it wasn't AWFUL), but surely you don't think TLJ was good because... it was different? TLJ didn't advance characters, it broke almost all of them down and made many of them into joke characters with no purpose.

The most funny part of the film was when rose decides to risk sacrificing her life and, in doing so, condemn the entire resistance to death (leaving the first order to rule the galaxy) because she loves finn, even though mere HOURS earlier she barely knew who he was and was grieving for her sister who had kamikazed herself at the start of the film. she sure got over that quick! who knew love bloomed so quickly!

TFA being rehashed and TLJ "trying to do something interesting" doesn't automatically make it a good film... in fact, TLJ is VERY similar to Empire Strikes Back in terms of where it ends, just without a coherent plot leading up to that point.

The sequel trilogy should never have tried to be such a close remake of the OT; they should have used Lucas' original script for a new trilogy. The prequels suffered from poor dialogue, generally poor directing and Lucas being entirely unchallenged with a lot of his dumb ideas, but if you look at the general outline of their plots they are interesting premises, just executed poorly. Using Lucas' plot outlines for a new trilogy but with more competent directors (like JJ and Rian) would have given us much better films than the VERY mediocre content we have at the moment.

movies: Spider Man 1 & 2 (The Sam Raimi ones), The Departed, Inception, Skyfall, Drive, Only God Forgives, The Town, Hell or High Water

Snoke was never going to be interesting (grr I'm evil and have a mashed up face! spooky!) and Kylo is easily the most interesting thing to come out of the two films, yeah he's angsty and cringe but he's supposed to be, he's trying to hard too be Vader (just like Luke tried too hard to be his image of a Jedi...it's like poetry...it rhymes...)

Rose didn't doom the resistance, she showed that meaningless sacrifice and death was silly - the whole point of the film and how her sister died (also Poe's arc). Probably a bit advanced for a prequel watcher sorry...

Lucas' original script for anything ever should never be used. See prequels.

Lucas' original script for anything ever should never be used. See prequels.

Disney rehash for anything should never be used. See sequels.

The prequels had a good plot premise but were poorly executed. The sequels have a **** plot premise but are well executed. Clearly you are blinded by mr plinkett's review of the prequels and refuse to see its good aspects... Maybe you should also watch his sequel reviews (they're like poetry, they rhyme).

Rose would have doomed the resistance had they not escaped through the back (she had no idea they had done this), because as soon as she stopped finn from destroying the cannon it fired on the resistance base. There would have been nothing "meaningless" about finn's sacrifice, he would have prevented the cannon from wiping out the resistance and bought them a lot more time to attempt an escape. Instead they are apparently in love (despite having known each other for only a few hours) and kiss as, from their perspectives, the entire resistance is slaughtered behind them.

Snoke could have been interesting... Isn't the original emperor just, as you say, "grr I'm evil and have a mashed up face! spooky!". Having your main villain be cringe is not smart, it isn't good writing, it doesn't make the opposition seem threatening, it makes them laughable. That doesn't mean you can't have a nuanced villain, even Vader had some element of that and redeemed himself at the end by ending the Empire, but making the primary opposition comical and incompetent just makes your good guys look even more incompetent when they can't win. ESPECIALLY when the resistance supposedly has the backing of a galactic republic (which btw is nowhere to be seen and we are left to assume, as we are not told, has been defeated off-screen by the first order).

Yeah I'm sure that door would have held forever!

Snoke sucked and prequels sucked beyond redemption. At least the sequels are just obvious cash grabs.

And I'm just ****in with you TLJ wasn't great and certainly isn't in my top 3, but it's bad for none of the reasons people complained about and IX will be 10x more depressing due to how much it's going to **** all over the few good ideas in the series. (seeing it tomorrow woohoo)
