The Necromancer's Tower:
The first one to meet the visitor was a hunter named Xardob. He was on his way back home, having checked the traps laid out in the thick forests that almost completely surrounded the village. Stepping on the road, or the trail that most approximated to a road, he was surprised to see an unfamiliar figure approaching the village on foot.
"Hey there", the hunter greeted the newcomer with a wave of his hand, and started to walked up.
The young man seemed equally surprised to see someone suddenly appearing out the forest, as he had stopped still in his tracks, was eyeing the bow that Xardob was carrying as he nervously asked:
"Uh. You aren't a bandit, right?"
"I'd be watching a busier road if I was", answered Xardob with amusement, "What brings you all the way over here, stranger?"
"Oh. Um, I'm here to conduct some... research", answered the newcomer hesitatingly.
He certainly looked to be the scholarly sort, by his attire, not suited to wandering at the edge of civilization. Xardob decided to accompany him on his way to the village, since they were heading the same way anyway. Soot was the name that the traveler gave, but other than that the hunter didn't really understand the explanations the young scholar tried offer in regards to the subject of his research.
The two were stopped at the edge of the village by Adaham, the village guard, but the traveler was let through soon enough as Xardob vouched for him. He really didn't seem like a particularly dangerous sort, and most of Adaham's job consisted more of driving out wild animals together with Xardob anyway.
It was a quiet day, just like any other, in that small and out of the way village. People went about their peaceful lives in the shadow of a great stone tower, oblivious to the fact that on the evening of that very day it would unleash upon them horrors worse than any of the stories that that ominous landmark had spawned over the generations that it had remained inert.
No, to the villagers the arrival of a traveler was just about the most excitement that they could even imagine in their lives. Walking into the village Soot was soon surrounded by a gaggle of curious children, to which the newcomer didn't know how to react. Fortunately he was saved as Vieira, the village chief, having quickly been alerted of the arrival of a traveler, came to the scene and rescued him. Taking over Xardob, who left to continue his work, the chief invited the traveler to enjoy a meal at his home, and over the dinner he listened as the young man explained his purpose for coming to the village.
"There's nothing but bad stories about that tower, young man. It hasn't bothered us as long as we've avoided it, but I'd advise against going there whatever your purpose", the chief gravely cautioned his guest after hearing him out, "If you really want to, I'll have Adaham escort you tomorrow, but since it's already getting late I'd recommend you stay at my house for the night and reconsider the matter."
With that the guest and hosts retired for the night, but it was not long after that Soot had already snuck out of his room. It was getting dark and the villagers headed to bed early, so no one noticed him walk out of the village and towards the thickly forested hill on which the stone tower rose. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate the chief's cautioning, but having anyone else come along would inevitably get in the way of what he'd come to do. People were prone to misunderstandings.
The climb to the top of the hill took him much longer than expected. He couldn't find any path through the forest, not even an animal trail, and somehow the forest appeared to have grown even thicker here than elsewhere around the village. By the time he had his way to the foot of the tower he'd torn his clothes and was out of breath after hauling his large bags along.
Worse the moon had already risen, which was rather inauspicious for exploring a necromancer's tower. Still, he didn't plan on sleeping out there either, so it was best for him to start immediately. He started by lighting candles, not just for the light, but for the purposes of the rituals he was to perform, around himself. If someone had seen him as he carefully laid out the contents of his bags around the entrance of the tower, they'd have quickly realized that the subject of his research had to be a fair bit more arcane than what he'd described to the villagers.
After half an hour of preparations Soot was finally ready to open the heavy wooden door of the tower. His long trip was finally over, and what awaited him were the secrets of one of the greatest masters of the arcane that had ever lived. Even though his interests were not in necromancy, the insides of the tower that had remained sealed for centuries were sure to be a treasure trove for any sort of a scholar. Thus he pulled at the handle of the door.
It didn't budge. Not because of any spell either, it was just locked. Lacking a key, Soot was in for another twenty minutes of work with the lock before he finally heard the satisfying click that indicated it would open. Holding his breath in anticipation, he pulled open the door, creaking on its rusted hinges. It was dark inside, and he couldn't really make out any details, so he kneeled down to pick up a candle. He heard a sound then, like a distant whisper. Quickly raising the candle and looking inside, he was just in time to see something rushing out from the tower and at him. In the next moment he heard a thunderous cacophony of screams and mad laughter, and then he lost consciousness.
When Soot woke up he was sprawled on his back, and so the first thing his eyes saw was the moon. It didn't seem to have moved much since he lost consciousness. On the other hand, it seemed to have a strange purple hue, which didn't seem quite right. Carefully rising to a sitting position, he noted that everything was quiet again, eerily so. He was still in the middle of circle of wards he'd drawn, though the candles had blown out, and it was beginning to dawn on him that those precautions had saved his life. On the other hand, as he looked out at his surroundings and saw a thick mist covering the forests and the village, Soot started to realize that he'd made a severe miscalculation. Whatever had been locked in that tower hadn't been blocked by his puny wards, and was now at loose somewhere in the village.

- There is no editing or removing of your posts. Please use the preview feature before you post.
- There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings.
- If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to me by the posted deadline. If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
- Any player with a Night action may instead submit a “No Action” PM to let the Mod know that you do not want to perform your expected action that Night phase.
- As a general rule you should aim for one post every 24 hours, to keep the game moving.
Voting, Deadlines, and Player Death:
- Your first post should include a vote.
- A simple majority of all living players must agree on one person for a Lynch to occur (simple majority = ½ # of living players +1, rounded down).
- Votes should be bolded and in the lime green color or they may not be counted (e.g. Vote: Player).
- Vote revocations should be bolded and in the lime green color or they may not be counted (e.g. Unvote: Player or Unvote). Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
- You may Vote: No Lynch - a simple majority of these vote types are required to send the game to Night phase without a Lynch.
- Votes/Unvotes that are bolded and lime greened correctly and are unambiguous (with respect to player nicknames/abbreviations) will count.
- The living players may choose to forgo the lynch and instead vote to banish one of the ghosts, sealing them within the Necromancer's Tower and thus permanently removing them from the game. (e.g. Banish: Player)
- If no one has reached a majority of votes at deadline, a No Lynch will occur.
- Once you have reached a simple majority no further unvoting will change someone’s fate.
- Once a living player is lynched, or a ghost banished, the game enters twilight until the death of said player is narrated; the lynched player may not post during twilight but all other living players may continue to post.
- Once you are killed (either via lynch or night kill) you become a ghost and may no longer talk during the day phase or vote to lynch or banish others.
- However, the dead may continue using the game thread to talk among themselves during the night phase, while the living must remain silent.
- Additionally, all dead players will receive a special ability upon becoming ghosts, to help their team with.
- The role of a player will not be revealed upon death.
- The role of a player will be revealed once they are banished.

- Prods of missing players will be issued upon request or on the 3rd day of no activity. A player who has been prodded 3 times is subject to possible replacement without further notice.
- Rules violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill. Modkills may be accompanied by a change to day/night.
- Any situation not explicitly covered above is subject to Mod discretion and will be handled as the Mod sees fit on a case-by-case basis.
