How to siege a fortress?

Hello,

im new in Mount and Blade: Napoleonic wars. Cannot find how to siege a fortress, when im playing LAN multiplayer. I tryed everything what came to mine mind to break the walls of gate (when the gate seems not to be destructable) with artillery or sappeur, but still im wrong. Can you please hint me?

If there are laiders at the wall, raise them by pressing F for a time whilst not standing on them

shoot arty at wall (depends how many shots you need but i think its around 4 for a basic wall)

use tnt to blow up wall

'****' build up with sapper (might want to look that up)
