For others, it is an opportunity to run around naked with a two-handed sword and test their combat skills against players from all around the world. In this week’s blog, we talk with the person responsible for making these equally epic (and sometimes silly) experiences a reality in Bannerlord: Korneel Guns.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/51

AWESOME BLOG!

I still wonder what are the "encouragements" you've developed to make people keep moving from zone to zone, target to target. I also wanted to know if you've developed any sort of multiplayer progression system (like a simple rank) that acts as heroin for players to keep coming back to raise dat xp. Too bad I'm not that fond of multiplayer, but boy do I miss those line battles... Those were some of the best multiplayer experiences of my life.

Still waiting on news about events this year and what we can expect from E3 and all those other events I can't even bother to remember the acronyms for.

And, more importantly, more info about the single player time and aging system...
Please no. Such progression systems are nothing but a sign that the gameplay's too bad to stand on its own two legs. Mount & Blade is too good for that rubbish.
Yes please no leveling up system that crap sucks

So am i right in assuming that your idea of more competitive multiplayer for Bannerlord is based more upon commanding troops vs other players than actually fighting other players? or is it 6v6 players but you get multiple lives and less of them if you choose good preset equipment?

Nice blog. Match making is good for competitive/meta game. Hope there are team match makings(like in cs, dota etc.) for clans, for team practicers etc. Waiting for a singleplayer info!

If that were the case I'd enjoy it to be honest, I like the idea of it, but what makes you think it is based MORE on commanding than pure PvP? If I'm not mistaken all the other regular modes that we had in Warband would probably be in Bannerlord as well. These new modes where commanding AI is involved are just additions, and I doubt they replace other modes. (as in the modes that were most present in the competitive scene)

I mean, they call it competitive, but I think the duel/battle competitive environment is so strong that it will remain the foundation, at least I assume so, especially considering that the player's skill in combat is predominant in the M&B series. However, seeing all the new orders and functions to command troops there could probably be a good competitive element in "commander battles". It would be fun to see a tournament based on the captain mode, or this skirmish mode admitting it actually does include AI as understood.

Is the guy with the axe a varangian guard?
Maybe a vaegir guard? :shifty:

This is exactly what I thought once I saw it!

Yes it might very well be a varangian guard because of the helmet that is one of the empires soldiers probably.

Very nice blog and very promising to. Even though I've never been very much a fan of multiplayer.

Good blog with interesting info and the bush image is very beautiful

Also really liking the knock-back animation, looks like it's been tweaked:

I agree with Monk, the knock-back animation really looks amazing.
Can't wait for the next blog.

This is why I asked about the gear choise/pregeared classes. When the dev said 'competitive' my mind went almost immediately to the main competitive mode. I think he just meant that it's going to be a more 'serious' PvPvAI. AI has no place in real competitive high skill ceiling servers / tournaments.

Finally, a good blog. The images and gifs look great although the part about 'choosing more expensive troops' on the 6v6 mentioned mode worries me. Do you choose preset geared warriors/archers/horsemen now in comparison to Warband where you do upgrade each individual part of armor and weapon based on your liking? This could degrade economy management and depth. A clarification on this would be good.

Need this. If it if like you describe in this post then it's going to ruin a lot of the multiplayer fun which comes from choosing which gear you use

I think it means that you get more lives if you choose 'basic' equipment, and fewer lives if you choose higher tier stuff. But it's still just 6v6 without AI soldiers. Otherwise it'd be the same as Captain Mode, no?

Exactly. Sounds like we’ll start with set amount of denars (let’s say 3,000) and spend it on unit types and load out tiers. For example, base cavalry cost 1,000, base archers cost 600 and base infantry cost 500. From there, we select extra gear that can add to the load out cost. Basically choosing better gear results in losing a life or two. Picking only base cavalry would result in a maximum of three lives while selecting only base infantry would result in six lives available.

Looking more and more incredible every time. Cool that the MP code seems to be primarily done and playtesting/tweaking/balancing are the focus.

The 6vs6 has me incredibly excited. If the resource system is balanced correctly then this could have a true competitive scene that is highly approachable/watchable by the average viewer. Very excited.

Cheers to Callum, Korneel and the rest of the team. Bring on Bannerlord

I don't see why the high end PvP can't have both modes of players only and players + AI. One is strictly tactical, individual performance and the other adds the element of command on top. It requires more multitasking and a better concept of squad dynamics. I will likely play and enjoy both, but I enjoy commanding every bit as much as I like fighting and I applaud the decision to include some modes featuring that style of play. It was stated pretty clearly that you can manually join a server and there is no reason to think you can't tailor the matchmaking to the particular game type you enjoy.

That is very debatable. The game is not like Total war where you command your troops and they attack each other with preset damage calculations. There is a directional swing system, feints, blocking, cavalry and ranged troops. A combat this deep cannot work competitively (read:competitively as in tournaments/big lans etc) because it simply is too unpredictable and I doubt AI could utilize certain tactics to decav someone, avoid arrows by proper strafing (via the mouse, makes you look like a spastic but it is what it is and it works) etc. While I agree that it can be fun, I dont see it being played seriously by known players or holding an significant role in the future leagues.
