A traveller coming over the passes from greener lands would first see fields of dunes broken by gravel plains and volcanic outcrops, shimmering under the heat haze. But there is water to be found underground, trapped in depressions or beneath the wadis where the occasional flash flood rumbles by. And in these oases people have settled. They are divided into dozens of clans and sub-clans, each with its elaborate genealogy, but are collectively known as the Banu Asera or the Aserai after the legendary patriarch Asera, whom they all claim as an ancestor.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/41

i speak it loud and clear so everyone does understand it = CALRADIA IS A ****ING FANTASY WORLD shock or xD

This time around I regret not having the time (and quite frankly, nor the patience) to slog through the whole thread, and I am certain some people have left interesting questions. I'm also afraid this may be too late, but here's my go at it:

About the blog: this has been my favourite blog until now. It went in depth into the aserai faction (which I particularly like because sarranids). It felt so brilliant, so good to read, this was masterfully crafted and it was a jolly good read. It did not, however, hype me up for the game, the blog that did that to me was the Vlandia blog, not sure why. This is good, I only want to be hyped after a release date is announced. Now, more than ever, I am completely undecided about which faction to choose, they all seem so interesting, and the 'clan' aspect of them is really promising (really hoping we could somehow join them). I will rest it here because it was really awesome to read this blog, congrats to the team who wrote it and translated it. (Really hoping you need some portuguese translator, so I could apply for the job...)

Edit: Seriously? Sturgians are uninteresting just because they don't fit some stereotypical depiction of northmen? I'll politely disagree.
And about the Aserai sabres/shamshirs: it has been traditionally a cavalry weapon (much later, of course), plus in the gameworld, the Khuzaits are more close and could be more culturally influential to the Aserai---id est: we only saw them on cavalry, maybe the infantry uses straight swords like the sarranids. Still, I don't really mind, I like variety, either curved. swords. or straight swords are nice virtual replacements for my genitalia and I'll be able to maim people with them. It's good enough for me.

Question(s) for Negus:

- Do you do colaboration work to write questlines, or background stories, or main quests, or you (and the other writers) write your pieces separately and then merge them into the game? (I am aware you all have to be on a similar standing and standard of writing because you can't write the same story for different events/characters, so you all know what each one has to write without invading the others' territories, what I am asking is if you write together with someone else on the same story, or if you prefer to write mostly by yourself - it's a writer's thing, I know)

- Did you take inspiration from some other fictional works to write specific sections of your writing? Did you feel it enriched your story this way? If you give any examples, it would spoil the game, but it would be nice if you could cite some of the works that did inspire you (if any). And are there any particular real world history event, situation or plot that inspired you for any of your writing stuffs? (like specific cultural stories or even "village stories" that you thought interesting to visit in the game)

- Personally, what kind of writing do you find most interesting to write: historical background, questline, dialogue, events, etc?

- And lastly: what will you do after the game is launched? Do you want to keep writing more stuff for possible DLCs, expansions, etc? Want to change to a different writing position (or just focus on design and less on writing)? Or do you want to take a break and just play the damn thing just like us all?

Thank you for your attention, hope any of these could be answered!
I seriously need to use my vacations to write my stuff...

This rant is useless, since Aserai =/= Arab and Calradia =/= Real World.

And yet if a viking faction existed and had horned helmets you'd be the one to rant probably.

Just tell me which armorer sells top quality horned helmets, so I can grab one for me and each companion.

Nice faction blog ! I like those Arabian themed faction. Just too bad Bannerlord will not feature religions, because I would love to play the Aserai in a Islam conquest fashion. It would be cool to become a prophet-emperor, just as Paul in Dune.

By the way, since Bannerlord features elements from the 5th to 11th century, curved swords are not out of place. Although, it is right that scimitar was not the sword that made the arab conquests.

I've always enjoyed a large cavalry charge on the dunes of the desert with a beautiful sunset or sunrise. It's going to be even better with the dust clouds that will build up from the charge in Bannerlord. So many of these minor factions are super interesting. The Ghilman, a brotherhood of slave-warriors is just another one, reminds me of Janissaries that I learned about from playing Age of Empires.

If you're worried about historical accuracy, surely you should be more interested in the economy of the Aserai. Afaik the Arab peninsula never produced a significant quantity of goods before oil became a key part of the global economy, and the Arabic caliphates mostly became rich only after taking the rich agricultural lands in Mesopotamia, which provided control over parts of the incredibly valuable overland trade routes between the far east and the Mediterranean.
So my question is, why is the Asarrai land even remotely important? Apparently it's a region of dessert surrounded by mountains, what trade route is it straddling? Why would the calradian empire give a **** whether caravans were secure when travelling into this area? Are the oasis' producing something economically valuable or is there a trade route through the mountains somewhere, and if so to where?

Why? What does religion bring in a game like M&B?

go play VC and then come back  .

Bannerlord doesn't need religion as a gimmick for drama or wars, but that is not to say it couldn't be added as a interesting layer for things like diplomacy, recruitment of troops, etc. But we don't have it on MB and Warband, so I see no reason to add it to Bannerlord.

No religion also means no religion drama on forum/steam/reviews/etc

What does "VC" mean?

Also - "No religion also means no religion drama on forum/steam/reviews/etc" - Exactly, that was my point.

if you are really so worried

I just stated that there is no Arabs in the game, there is no Africa nor Europe nor Middle East in the game, even physic rules are different in the game, and that is why i call incredibly stupid to look for historical accuracy or realism. There is Calradia which inspired from medieval european (and neighboring) cultures - not copying obviously - and shaping them however they want.

Thanks for your concerns but i feel pretty free about expressing my own ideas about "historical game" demands. I mean, there will be historical mods (which i also will enjoy), lets not push on TW about historical accuracy and realism, shall we?

There are no "arabs" in the game, factions are being made by TW however they want. "taking inspiration from history" does not equal with "copy/pasting history". Bannerlord is being happened in an imaginary continent called Calradia, with imaginary factions.

TW could even give one flying unicorn to Aserai troops and we still couldn't say "this is not historically accurate!" etc.

How many times we must tell them this is a fantasy game and there's no real faction in it?

This realism bandwagon is a vocal minority that think their opinions are more valuable than yours just because of realism, because every game should be as realistic as possible. The devs don't have the right to make their game as they like, they must make it 100% historically accurate, no creativity is allowed.

Oh look more recruits having pointless discussions about realism because they don't understand that MnB is not a historical game. You want realism? Go play Kingdom come: Deliverance.

Well let me ask you a question, and be sincere now.
Wouldn't you be the one complaining if a viking faction existed and they suddenly got horned helmets?

There is a little bit of a difference tho.
Aserai are based on Arabs who used curved swords. It may be true that they didn't use them until 9th century, but they did use them.
A viking faction, let's say the Nords, would be based on the old Norse, the Norse never ever used horned helmets.

You see the difference? One faction did used curved swords, at a later time, its true, but they did use them, while the other faction never used horned helms, it's important to understand that it's a difference between the two.

I don't care that much about the Aserai having curved swords or straight swords, so maybe it would be a good ideea if they would have both.

I always wonder why so often people in games in allegedly warm or hot areas wear as much clothing on any single body part as people in cold climates. And always the modern demure cowboy style, boots, pants and shirt. The "big variety" then comes with different textures, great.

The short answer is to reflect the suns rays and retain moisture [sweat]. Use google for the rest, "why do people in desert climates wear so much clothing".

clothing can keep you cool as much as it can keep you warm. I wouldn’t wear a down jacket on the desert

Covering the body from the sun was very important back when sunscreen didn't exist. Would you rather be a little more sweaty or sunburnt?

There is nothing wrong for adding scimitar/curved sword for aserai, since they have The ghilman faction. In real life Ghilman/ghulam were Band of slave soldiers comprised out of turkic war prisoner (though sometime voluntary as well which varied from personal to a chief pledging his entire tribe for service). So the curved sword probably came from them. That also a possiblity of aserai having horse archer through them (like irl) but that would be too OP.

Have you actually seen how the horse archers perform in both Bannerlord and Warband? They suck

I disagree, they seem to work just fine and effectively judging from what i saw in E3 2017 Horse Archer Sergeant Gameplay (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMeqj8WG0a:cool:

Most of the kills came from the horsemen running uo to slash them with swords. Not to mention the player got off halfway through and fought with a sword and shield, so it really hides the cavalry gameplay from the viewer.

i am still holding out when there will be an update on the status of win the game is going to come out of give us a new idea of were in the ball park they plan to buy it i would love to buy they game or at least pre-order it i been just dyeing to try it i been playing mount and blade sync the first one came out and i have loved it

If they turn out to be very weak TW can just simply increase their stats and make them more accurate with a small update no worries.

I mean, yeah you could say that for every unit in the game.

But would you rather have the horse archers be good because they can one shot people, or would you rather they are useful because they actually behave like real life horse archers and use horse archer tatics?
