Today we want to introduce you to a very important role in every development team. Every time a game designer thinks of a cool feature or an animator creates a beautiful movement, there’s someone who has to find a way to make it happen and implement everything in the actual game. You are right, we are talking about the programmers, those code magicians that turn designers’ wishes into reality – and then fix all the issues that usually follow every change: a video game is a very complex system, and changing even the smallest thing can create unexpected problems!

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/40

You start the game without a faction, and usually you meet the Empire first, so I guess quite a few people will prefer the Empire as their favourite faction. But I like Khuzaits, because of the mechanics of horse archery. I really love that, and no other game gives the same feeling.”

Interesting... So unlike the past games, you won't choose where you start?

that is the game tutorial/short campaign, story heavy, not like Warband with a generic merchant quest and out you go into the world.

it is likely you can skip it on a second campaign. If not, quite easy to install a mod for that

I like the concept of a more relevant, story heavy introduction. I always found it odd how the mini rebellion that you fuel with the merchant of (insert capital) is never mentioned or revisited during the rest of the game.

This is news to me. If this is a new reveal, I would love to see more information on this. Have they already discussed this in a prior blog that I missed, or is this a new reveal?

I wasn't even married when I saw the announcement for Bannerlord,
but now my grandson just called and asked if he'll be able to play Bannerlord before he dies.

I said be patient, TaleWorlds will deliver! but we should try to save a Windows 10 laptop until then, as it might not run on the new operating systems of 2050
btw I'm so excited for that 2030 trailer after 9000th developer blog update

srsly wtf guys? just release it to PC/PS4/XBone already  I would ask for PS4 Pro enhancements, but I'd be worried it will take another 6 years for that

You got married, had a child, and had a grandson in 5 1/2 years? Sure. Obvious troll is obvious. Take the trolling elsewhere.

If you want a true story of the ridiculousness of the delays, I was applying to join the army when Bannerlord was announced... in the meantime I joined, served 4 years, left, and now I'm half way trhough my first year at uni.
I hope I won't be repeating this story when I'm graduated or doing a masters or some ****

That's a pretty good example. I was in the middle of Middle School when I jumped on the hype train, and now I'm in my second semester of my freshman year at College. Not quite as dramatic as your journey, but still shows the years lol.

However, I still wouldn't consider the delays ridiculous. It is an incredibly large game being carried by a relatively small team. I'm willing to wait for them to perfect the game. If Bannerlord development reaches 8 years, then I will jump on the "release the game NOW" train, but at the moment we're at 5 1/2 years and that honestly doesn't seem too long to me. Games take a while to develop, especially for small teams. Fingers crossed, this year is the year it finally releases.

Hopefully you and I won't have completed degrees by the time the game is released. That would be truly ridiculous :dead:

Er it's already been in development 8 years, they started it after Warband was released in 2010. It was announced 5 1/2 years ago. Time to board the 'release the game NOW' train?

We know why it's been a comparatively long development phase, as they have restarted from scratch one or more times. They also tacitly admit teasing it in September 2012 was pretty optimistic and a mistake. It made my blood boil how poor they were at communicating, especially Frank Elliot's snarky responses to perfectly valid questions, but Callum and TW in general have redeemed themselves these past few months imo. Would be really surprised if it wasn't released by Q3 this year.

Well, they didn't announce anything until 2012 so by my count it wasn't officially in development until 2012. Technically, you're right. They are rounding up to 8 years in development. However, we the community have still only been waiting 5 1/2 years if our wait began when they announced it, which was when my wait began. I should have worded my other post better.

But I can wholeheartedly agree with you on their communication skills. They were absolutely deplorable when it came to communication with the fanbase--emphasis on were. Fortunately they have reversed that and approach the fanbase with a much more open attitude. Keeping up with the weekly blogs alone really shows an about-face in their attitude.

I believe that the salt levels within the fanbase will rise considerably if they don't release by Q3 this year. Even though TaleWorlds does not have an official release date, there is a certain point that they have to release by to avoid pushing the fanbase too far. 2018 looks like it's shaping up to be that point. I am willing to stick around past that point, but I am not sure how much of the fanbase shares my point of view.

I dont mean to be the negative guy, but for me they havent redeemed themselves yet. Sure the blogs are a step in the right direction, but they give us so little information that it comes off as patronizing to me. Like they are doing it just to hold us off because they dont want to hear us complain. some have been pretty good, I admit like the weapon physics ones or the modding one, they were largely new information, but the interview ones...yikes.

I wish they would be more like the blogs from way back when. They were long and basically all new information every time. Its a shame they stopped before they got into more details, but thats where i assume something went wrong in development.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It doesn't really bother me too bad as at least it's something, which is always better than nothing, but I would like to see more MEAT to the interviews. The interviews sometimes feel a little... Fluffy, I guess.
Personally, it's enough for me--but I can understand why you would need more than that.

I'm in the same boat. Whilst I'm happy to recieve these blogs, even the lackluster dev interview ones (JK, they're mostly ****e  ) I feel like they are of a standard that would have been expected back in 2015 when they were still in the dark ages of their dev cycle. After seeing how complete the game was in the 2016 PC gamer vids I expect more detailed gameplay concept blogs... like how minor factions work, crime etc... not basic gameplay technicality blogs

Okay, so you don’t want any surprises for when the game releases?

Surprises? He's asking for info on oft mentioned gameplay mechanics, not story spoilers for The Witcher.

OMFG watch ouuuuuut!
There is a celtic based faction called the Battanians that have a city called Dunglanys
The empire is based on..... the Byzantines not the Romans
there are ..... MINOR FACTIONS BABY! one of them are fake vikings :fruity:

And now I'm gonna spoil you day by revealing the greatest "spoiler of them all", been 3 years in the making.... cultural specific board games for all factions. Knowing that is definitely going ruin the game for you now
