Licensed game engines tend to offer a flexible approach to game development by providing a variety of options and features for a wide range of genres. However, developing your own game engine allows you to create exactly what you need for the task at hand. Granted, it is a monumental task to undertake, but we feel that the benefits far outweigh the time, energy and financial investments required to produce something which will allow us to achieve our goals and ultimately improve the quality of the final product. Our engine, which was built entirely in-house, focuses on the crucial needs of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. It is tailored to helping the game reach its full potential, which is something that would be hard to accomplish with another engine. This is what our engine team tries to achieve. Smooth gameplay, big battles and great visuals are their primary ambition. Murat Türe, Lead Programmer of the engine team, works on making Bannerlord optimised, moddable and huge, while retaining all of the key features which made our previous games so successful.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/25

well at least the last one was a proper quote. The first looks like a Twilight Zone post or something I would post after drinking too much ale

... I'll agree, it's better than nothing, and we are getting some insight, but I thought the questions were going to be more inquisitive, instead of basic "What do you do?" and "What is your favourite faction?" questions.
Isn't that the job for his direct manager?

Maybe next wks blog could be a 1hr-2hr of just like sandbox gameplay of siege defence or offence but I guess we will have to wait another wk. OML I could supply a salt factory atm

Guys, i really love all the work and everything you have done for us. But to be honest, i would more care about the team and every member when, at least you showed us some missions, one tournament match or, what everyone is waiting, diplomacy.

When you will show us at east small portion of the game then i can say that yes, those guys really did amazing job. All the questions seem very boring, i find myself skipping almost everyone of them. And i am really disapointed when i wait a week to see another Q&A about someone i dont even know what he did.

How about you show us some more gameplay and mechanics of the game and then talk about contribution of team members. Or to make it at least a little bit intresting, how about you answer the communities questions? I dont say reveal the release date but at least answer some questions.

Dev Blogs are really getting better every week. Keep it up.
my fav parts
which means it can, and will, use all of the cores of current and next gen CPUs for the foreseeable future
800 characters, at 60FPS
With all of the CPU and hard drive optimisations we try to achieve <1 second loading times on these bigger scenes

Yes , Who will you be talking next week ?

It isn't a Q&A with a member of our team, that is all I can say at this point.

Oh la la, a surprise. Maybe loads of screenshots and a video??

Hi Murat, thanks for a great insight - keep up the good work.

I'm happy the engine will exploit future hardware advances.

Currently, 60-70% of the frame is fully parallel, which means it can, and will, use all of the cores of current and next gen CPUs for the foreseeable future, (the old engine generally used to use 1, or at most 2 cores.) This means that as new, higher core count CPUs begin to emerge, Bannerlord will scale well with the new hardware and players will be able to test bigger and denser battles. Currently our aim for battle sizes on current generation high end gaming CPUs is at 800 characters, at 60FPS.

Clearly, investing in the latest hardware when Bannerlord is finally released will be worth it.

Maybe a studio tour or something like that ??

Best post until now, and it is the question;

1- How can we control whole army instead of just one class if the battlefield size is 4km square? or are you focusing just the control of one class?

Creative Assembly in smoking in the corner.

+1

Now if we could just get a few new screenshots that illustrate what the dev was talking about
