What is your favorite kind of medieval helmet?

Sallet helmet is my favourite helmet due to its cool looking shape and functionality.

I like the viking helmets. They look really cool and the horns for nobles and elite warriors make them look even cooler.

I learnt about these Cuman-Kypchak helmets thanks to the Bannerlord Cpt mode videos(Khuzaits) they also look good.

These Roman helmets really give the impression of professionalism though !

One of my favorite's definity has to be the late medieval sallet. My favorite helmet of all time is the sallet of Boabdil (Muhammad XII). It's an utterly beautiful piece of art. I think it looks absolutely heroic

I also love ancient Greek helmets, especially the Trojan/Corinthian types with the plumes on top.

I also really like this style. It's quite similar but it's more open in the facial area with the two parts protruding from the helmet and covering the cheeks.

Both are 13th to 14th century, Mongol styles
associated with Ilkhanids and the Golden Horde...

similar piece of armor from the 15th century...

The oldest record of full facial masks in the middle east goes back as far
as the Greek Seleucid empire, worn mostly by heavy cavalry as well
as Galatian charioteers. Such armor was later adopted by Parthian,
Palmyran, and Armenian cataphracts , then later by Sassanian savarans...

The masked helmets worn by Kipchaks and Cumans itself may have
been adopted from the Middle East, as part of the probable artistic revival
of Persian Sassanian elements. This is also evident in literature such as the
Shahnemeh and even the 1001 Nights (Shahryar was a fictional Sassanid King!)

Such examples would possibly influence Russian and
other Eurasian styles, connected throughout the silk road...

Y5CPBna.jpg

Pechenegs, Kipchacks ad Cumans would therefore be expected
to adopt and merge both Persian and Slavic styles while also
developing their own artistic preferences...

Similar forms of cultural exchange continued up until the 17th century.
This may explain why many Russian and Polish helmets resemble
those used by the Mamluks, Ottomans and Safavids...

The Mystery of of the helmet of
Sultan Murad IV (1612 - 1640)

pPW8Z99.jpg

Until recently, portraits of him, commonly depict his helmet as
a solid structure with winged corners, the shapes seems to be drawn
more rigid over the years, as each artist interprets them differently...

MuNE4SZ.jpg

92yA48f.jpg

However many ottoman sources depict it differently,
with the emphasis on its chain mail pattern, sometimes
raised or relaxed, which may point out that it may be a
raised mail aventail after all, rather than a full helmet...

aBSmjwA.jpg

The same armor set is also depicted on later sultans such as
Mustafa II (1664 - 1703 / left) compared here with Murad IV (right)
notice how the aventail is raised and tied or pinned just above the turban...

WSH2va0.jpg

riding a Simurgh phoenix, and clad in contemporary arms and armor

cQFhEqh.jpg

QhpiRrQ.jpg.

A similar armor set does indeed exist and may be the closest
to the ones worn by them both. This armor set belongs to the
Sultan Mustafa III (1717 - 1773) and shares many features...

Interesting 2016 attempted, media portrayal of Murad IV
thou the helmet is larger, while the aventail seems shorter
